Huge golf meltdown caught on camera goes viral over stupid ruling!

This is a STRANGE ruling & it has definitely SPLIT opinion on what is the right and the wrong decision! but the question is what do you think of the rules debate and is the golfer right to be angry? I wan’t to know what you think!

Golf rules can be funny at the best of times and we have seen goflers argue alot! but who is right in this one? It all occurred in the Barstool Sports writers cup!

  1. If you have ever played scramble in a club comp. Your told once the ball is holed thats your score, no one else gets a go at the putt…

  2. For those who say its to speed play up… then why waste time making the guy have the birdie putt… he is wasting time because you have finished that hole… so for pace of play, move on quickly to next hole…

  3. What if ! Player hits up to 6inches, and to speed up play he does not mark ball as his buddy can go rite behind him… now say that guy has a rush of blood and hits it 10 feet past….

Are you going to allow them a tap in to speed up play …

As ball was not marked the longer putt is the ball now in play.

  4. So I have played in numerous scrambles and had never heard of something like until this year when I played in a scramble and I went ahead and putted my par in and still had three guys for birdie to putt – the group quickly told me that we are not to do that but it was not in any rule we had, but it was common knowledge there
Back home it was common knowledge to just tap the putt in for pace pf play sake
Too me it is a precarious situation, becasue common sense dictates that you would not take a par over a birdie – but we do live in a society where common sense is out the window these days

  5. Have also played in hundreds of scrambles. It is a 4 unless they specified in the rules for the event that first ball in is the one that counts. Have seen them specify it here many times. If you watch ANY youtube golf events they always tap it in and some of those guys in the event in question are on videos on youtube right now tapping them in before their partners putted.

  6. It is game over. You putted in and that roll counts. your partner has the right to punch you in the nose.

  7. It's the same as singles when they tap it in when they're close to the hole. It's to speed up the game. It's a 4. If it's ok to tap it in in singles, why not in scrambles as well to speed up the game? As long as no one hits the same shot twice, what's the problem?

  8. common sense says let him tap it in and pick the ball up to speed up play. If it's a length that needs thought then I guess he's gonna mark it anyway. what's the point of marking a 1ft putt?

  9. If that putt is within 3 feet, tap in is fine, other partner goes for the birdie. Beyond 3 feet, that's way different, all of us can miss a 3 foot or longer.

  10. It seems to be a 5 to me as the ball is in the hole, BUT, in terms of moving the pace of play along, allowing the tap in and then the putt for a potential 4 does make a bit of sense.

  11. This one is easy, as you said, unless those running the scramble state that all players must putt before putting the ball in the hole (rule sheet). I myself like the idea but the majority of scrambles quite honestly do not which is fine as well. Not a big deal, the angry guy should have said nothing and moved on. Lastly, if good golfers were in the prize money spots, they most likely play out the hole the proper manner regardless. If it is a substantially big money scramble, this situation is certainly a possibility.

  12. We always play that tap in can be made for pace of play in case someone else makes the long putt. But if rules state that must play in order then rules are rules.

  13. The fact that so many golfers are bent out of shape over this, regardless of what their previous experiences are at different scramble tourneys, is what truly takes away from this game we all love. The whole point of scramble is for everyone to have fun and try to shoot the best possible score as a team. So why add more rules/gamesmanship to then prevent exactly what the play format is supposed to produce? People need to get over themselves. Have a beer and calm down, it’s a game.

  14. It’s 100% a four. Usually the other team will say “that’s good”. “That’s good” is same as a holed putt. So you operate as having a free putt for the putt.

  15. Nothing is more annoying in golf then the group ahead of you marking their two-inch tap ins while the other teammates finish their putts. Slow play sucks.

  16. I watched a Rick Shiels/Fat Perez scramble video last week, and they often tapped in and then took the second putt for the lower score. I wondered about it then, not knowing that controversy was just around the corner!

  17. There’s a difference between a charity scramble which most people play in, playing the scramble for money, where the other team is on the same hole as you. It’s clear this match was intense. As soon as they hole out, that’s the score.

  18. Our 'old ducks' league had a similar issue a couple of years ago. It wasn't a big deal (how physical can a bunch of 70 and 80 years old's get?! LOL), so we made a rule…when the ball goes in the hole, that's the score you record. The upshot, nobody putts that 2 incher in, before his partner putts.

  19. Anything inside of a foot shouldn’t need to be putted. It’s meant to be a fun format. I think the rules officials on twitter should get a life. They don’t need to take 5 hours

  20. The guy in red was just a butt head. He is the kind of guy that no one wants to play golf with. Most people in scrambles would have said "that's good" for the short putt and let the other guy try to make the 4. But not the guy in red. He has to use random unnecessary rulings to win. By the way, there are no official rules for Scrambles since it is not an officially recognized format.
