The 2023 US Open main draw runs from August 28 – September 10 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 143rd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Last year, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Poland’s Iga Swiatek claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles. It was both players’ first US Open title, with Alcaraz winning his first Grand Slam title and Swiatek winning her third Grand Slam title. This year, at the US Open, we’re set for another historic tournament as the world’s best tennis players head to New York. the entire tournament, I was trying HARD to figure out who she reminds me of….I dont like comparing tennis players to each other, because the beauty of the game, starts with individuals expressing themselves with tennis racquets. Thats why I LOVE tennis. Its a sport that has an extremely unique way of allowing players to express themselves and how they approach the game.
That said, in her match against Muchova, it dawned on me that she plays A LOT like Lleyton Hewitt and Mats Wilander…especially the early-80s version of Wilander. She doesnt remind me female players, at all, to be quite blunt. This girl had an epic tournament. And that match against Sabalenka, will go down as one of the great matches of this tournaments' history.
