UK Government Proposes Controversial Restrictions on Away Fans Travel: Supporters Express Outrage

New restrictions proposed by the UK Senior Traffic Commissioner could significantly impact fans heading to away football matches, prompting strong reactions from the Scottish football community.

The latest guidelines, released for consultation in late August, target buses ferrying supporters to football fixtures. If implemented, these regulations would align Scottish practices with those existing in England and Wales.

Many fans took to social media, expressing a combination of anger and confusion about these potential rules. Specifically:

Buses would need police approval before stopping within a 10-mile radius of a stadium.
Stops at licensed establishments would necessitate clearance from authorities. Additionally, if alcohol is served, it must be paired with a ‘substantial meal’.
Buses can’t halt at unauthorized spots for picking up fans without notifying the police.
Buses must arrive at a stadium ‘no earlier than two hours before and no later than one hour before the scheduled game kick-off’.

Gillian McKay, an MSP representing the Scottish Greens, voiced her opposition on social media, emphasizing the positive impact of supporters and football clubs on their communities. “These proposed measures,” she stated, “are unwarranted, unworkable, and out of touch. Immediate reconsideration is needed!”

This proposal has reignited debates on the balance between security and freedom for football fans. Only time will tell how this saga unfolds.

  1. If football fans didn't smash up towns, yes it's to draconian. My point was going to to be of this out of touch government. Paul and ruffy attacked people booing the queenns death. Did it occur because we had 75yrs of an unelected head of state and not one real conversation about should we keep them or just meanness, I think some were. Just watch the politics

  2. Be careful who you vote for, it may well be your enemy. Get in their face and ask them where the hell is all this garbage coming from? If you don't stop it now, look out.

  3. I haven’t missed listening to Tam Cowan bang on about Motherwell. I am convinced he doesn’t watch any football games outside Fir Park.

  4. I find it insane how we were all put under house arrest for bogus reasons
(Compare us with Sweden. Who did literally nothing, & are now in a better place, by every metric than us).
And now these talking heads just move on to the usual controversies, like nothing happened.

  5. Hire a Car salesman, and guess what ?.. You get a CAR SALESMAN !…..Mike Brewer is the next Ramgers Manager for me 👍

  6. Roy Orbison released a song in 1963 which sums up the Ramgers response…And this song was sen via spottyguy to That carsalesman at Ambrax….👍…I can't for the life of me understand what the problem is ??? But then , I've never been SOBER SINCE SUNDAY 🤣😂🤣🎉🤣🎉🤪🥳🍀🎉🍀🥃🥃🥃🍀🥃 ..Comon the hoops 😚

  7. What NONE of the panel have addressed is the MISINFORMATION that is on display EVERY WEEK ……
Why is this New Club being allowed to sing songs like "SIMPLE AND BREAST"..?… It's a National Scandal..Tina will be spinning in her box … especially after me sitting oot the back in the hoops singing her hits around 8 pm …(before I passed oot on the scotch thistle patch) 🥳🎉🥃

  9. But let's see what Parma is like ,a think he's going to make a big Difference to Celtics attacking power

  10. Right ok if that’s the case then why didn’t Micky come out at the time when this was first mentioned that he had spent x amount on this that an the other player 😂🙈but no Micky leaves it till a defeat to a very depleted Celtic squad so answer that then Peter !

  11. Look I'm delighted the foul was given against the settlers but it's a penalty to the attacker if the defender kicks the opponent before the ball. Every time it's a penalty.

  12. See that comment Tam that is ok cause he just playing up at talk, fenian bastard here there and everywhere is whats wrong with scottish society… would it be ok black bastard this or jewish bastard that. You're a disgrace to Scotland and an enabler to knuckle dragging behaviour being normal

  13. The old firm game has been lacking the tackles, the red cards, the 100 mile an hour pace of late. Crunching challenges. We've gone soft. And the fans are locked out.

As for this ridiculous legislation it's united the supporters. Football fans not criminals. Police state tactics sinister stuff. The working class man is not the enemy. Resist.

  14. We've got open borders and open jails in Britain. Terrorists on the run… This countries elected representatives are a disgrace. I can't believe how badly run things are. Reject the police state. Football fans not criminals.

  15. Right, Hubert what was not said in your own words but what you meant was, that despite Glasgow Rangers FC (1872 Ltd/1899Plc/2012 version)beating Bayern Munch.
Wee, toatsy, tiny, teenie weenie Berwick Rangers are the reason why Glasgow Rangers FC (aka Rangers FC aka RFC 2012 at time of Death) lost their 3rd tier Europa Tournament Final 😊❤🎉in 1967? 😂

  16. Surely some of the Boos was at the ref due to the VAR incident and them not recalling the St Mirren one that they got that was the same. Some boos because they were beaten by a Celtic team they should have at least put under more pressure.
