Today I Today I visited Roots Hall to explore the story of Southend United under the ownership of Ron Martin, and how today’s game vs Gateshead could be their last ever home match – the club could die if a £1.4 million fee isn’t paid by March 1st to HMRC.

Great video, sad situation. Visited Roots Hall with Leeds 3 times and really enjoyed the away end and stadium as a whole.
An excellent informative and sad film. I didn't realise how grave the situation is!?
🚨 UPDATE 🚨
Southend HAVE paid the £1.4 million owed to HMRC.
The club will continue to operate in the NL this season as they push for promotion.
Thank you for the support on my video about the issue, it’s great to see it has been resolved.
But still, the message remains the same: #MartinOut
No program, no medical cover a dreadful sad state of affairs a takeover is badly needed
Hi! I'm an ex-Brit whose grandfather lived in Southend and loved the football club.
First, hats off to the parents who raised this compassionate, kind and articulate young man!
There's a lot of blame to go round for the club's situation.
1> The EFL has the right and the duty to prevent a harmful change of ownership. They failed.
2> The local government should have either welcomed Martin's plans or thrown them out. They did neither, and the situation has dragged on for years. They failed.
3> It's in Martin's business interests to have a successful club in a shiny new stadium with a gazillion parking spaces. In England you can't do that without the buy-in of the supporters. He didn't get it. He failed.
[I don't have any brilliant ideas on how to fix all of this, but I can't wait to see how it turns out.]
Looks like you been saved for now soo glad for southend fans 🚜🚜🚜🚜
Excellent mini-doc. Thank you.
All the best of luck, Chins up, things can change very quickly. BHAFC.

Good on you lads for standing up for your club, never is a player bigger then the club and never is a club bigger then the fans.
Respect from Millwall.
Just copy rangers get liquidated then come back and claim its the same club
The issues with Southend Utd go way back further than 24 years, when I lived in Southend during the sixties and seventies the club was always living hand to mouth with the directors creaming of the profits from sales of players to 1st division clubs, Peter Taylor to Tottenham, Bill Garner to Chelsea & Chris Guthrie to Sheffield Utd all for 100k a pop! All the talk was of selling Rootes Hall & moving to another supposed ear marked site for a new modern stadium and here we are 50+ years later and nothing has changed except Southend Utd is now in the fifth tier of english football. Having watched hundreds of games both home and away back then I am sorry to see the club in the state it is today and really hope the club digs itself out of the financial hole it has dug for itself. The loyal supporters deserve to see success on the field, it has been a long time coming!

Echo Essex, Essex Live and other local newspapers always keep on mentioning about that bloke Ron Martin. All he has done is nothing and got Southend United into so much trouble. He still needs to go.
As a Celtic fan found the video very interesting but very sad for the southend fans , reminds me of the zombies of west Glasgow
Good luck !!! Cmon you shaggers
How strange “ every one loses’ the Fans the Tax man’ the Town of Southend’ except the Property developers ‘🤔 how strange/ again ?
I can't believe this is still being allowed in football. It was recognised in Parliament that football clubs are a central point in communities and some form of protection was needed from unscrupulous owners who buy clubs with the sole aim of stripping them of their assets for personal profit. This is so similar to what Wrexham went through. We fought with everything and we have some pivotal figures in our fan base that put themselves on the line to challenge the owners legally. These fans won a court case to return the ground to the club after it was transferred for a peppercorn amount to another of the owners companies. It was ruled that he failed in his fiduciary duties to the club as a business; assets do not become worthless overnight. There was a lot of help from fans around the country as well which is why Wrexham fans will always step up to help clubs in this situation. Brighton fans were fighting for their club to get a ground and supported us loads along with fans from clubs all over the country. There was a movement at the time called Fans United, I'm not sure if this still exists but there's obviously a need for it. There was supposed to be a "fit and proper persons" test for anyone wanting to take over a football club. Property developers do one thing, develop land. It's no surprise that the business structure appears to be one where a century old football club which is central to its community is fitted in around plans to build houses rather than being the priority. In fact, in these situations the football clubs affected seem to be seen as more of a hinderance to making as much money as possible from development. It's just not acceptable, it's wrong, it disrespects the people of the community and the business people who do these things need to be forced out. If someone wants to buy a football club they should be doing it to buy into everything that club stands for… the football, the fans, the community the reputation of the town or city…
they said wrexham was dead (the Southend situation sounds eerily similar to what happened with Wrexham and Alex Hamilton) and look at where wrexham is at now with decent ownership (after the fans trust kept it afloat) …. Hope Southend gets everything sorted and can continue in National League
🚨 SOUTHEND UNITED UPDATE 🚨
Owner Ron Martin has put the club up for sale, or if this isn’t possible, he is looking for new investors.
He would like the sale to go through by the end of the season.
This is a fantastic bit of news!
I used to be involved with Colchester United but have always had an affection for The Shrimpers. Southend United is a fab club. Very nice video, made with care and consideration. UTB!
Don't expect BBC/Sky to be bothered after THEY only invented football in 1992. The young man presenting could go far in sports media.
Now its whatever happens on MAY 17TH .
A similar thing happened at Bury ,how are the football league letting this happen repeatedly?
Well done young man and well put gods speed to your great football club
