How To Apply Tinted Sealer
Surface Preparation:
1.Make sure concrete is clean and free of any / all paint and mastic.
a. Soy Gel Paint & Sealer Stripper
b. Bean-E-Doo Mastic remover
2 Thoroughly clean the residues away using our Concrete Cleaner & Degreaser then allow the concrete to dry.
3.Check the newly cleaned concrete for porosity by getting it wet. Water should soak into the surface within a few minutes. If it does not easily soak into the surface, you will need to use our Hard Troweled Floor Pre-Treatment, or sand the surface with a 50 to 80 grit pad to open the pores.
a. When using Hard Troweled Floor Pre-Treatment, consider wearing spiked shoes. Without wearing spikes, you risk printing the surface as the acidic properties of the etching solution is sensitive to pressure.
4. Once the surface is chemically etched or mechanically sanded, clean the surface again with our Citrus Based Concrete Cleaner & Degreaser. Once cleaned and thoroughly rinsed, you will no longer need the spiked shoes.
Tinted Sealer Application:
The most favored method for applying Tinted Sealer is our 3 gallon pump up sealersprayer, or an ace hardware pump up fence and deck sprayer. You can also use our3/8” nap roller to apply. However, you will want to be careful to avoid streaks or roller lines that can easily occur when rolling.
Often, smooth, even concrete surface can be sprayed on and allowed to cure. If your concrete has high and low spots or varied texture, it’s common to spray the sealer on and as you move along, have someone back-roll with a 3/8ths” nap roller to even out the color. When back rolling the sprayed sealer, make sure the roller has been wetted in sealer and the excess is bled using a paint tray. Do not apply pressure when back rolling sealer, allow the weight of the roller to evenly pull, being careful to maintain an even coat. Maintain a wet line and do not stop until the surface is completed.
Apply Sealer in two thin coats, allowing 4 to 6 hours between coats when applying solvent based tinted sealer or 12 to 14 hours between coats when applying a water based tinted sealer. The first coat should go on in a north/south direction and the second thin coat in an east west direction.
Slight color variations that can occur die to variations in concrete textures and porosity should not be considered in perfections but more of a part of the natural variance.
