  1. Winter well all. In the immortal words of Spinal Tap: "Have a good time all the time". That would be my philosophy, Pecky.

And thanks for the entertainment, the scandal, the cricket (sometimes).

  2. Great batting from Bushy again. You mentioned it will be his last game Jimmy. Assume he is returning to OZ and wont be coming back next season. His batting has been a pleasure to watch. Dont suppose you can ask him to come back. As for Toby Smith..please get him to return. His bowling has been a pleasure to watch, and his batting when he got going was big fun. Understand fully though when he has to drive an hour just to get to home games, and away games even more difficult. Last word is not said though…please Toby entertain us again for Wheatley next season. Its been a great season James and Jimmy, and your fans and viewers really appreciate the coverage that you bring us. Enjoy the close season, and see you all back next april. Will be interesting to see what new jewels you surprise us with next year. Bushy has been a sensation. All the best from Berlin Dave

  3. Given early season departures of some of the more established players coupled with no Jourdain thundering in finishing 4th is an excellent outcome. Bushy has been an excellent acquisition and Tongy recovered really well to give the batting a touch of style and substance. Mad Dog is an excellent keeper and all the bowlers stuck to task and had their good days. Excellent cricket, lovely entertainment always beautifully presented. Thank you so much guys. It's roll on next season. I hope to be back in the UK next year and get to a match at the Wheatley Oval. Onwards and upwards.

  4. Just a quick line to say thankyou for putting these games up for us every week. It’s an absolute joy watching these clips and to be honest, I’d rather watch this cricket than any other. Your commentary illustrates the unique joy that cricket can bring to people and I am sure that I’m not the only one here that really appreciates all you do. Have a lovely autumn/winter and see you next year. Look after yourselves. Best wishes, Jonathan

  5. Umpires got that wrong it is not a dead ball they have to decide whether a ball would have made the boundary or not and either award 4 runs or the runs accumulated before the interference

  6. A fine win and a most enjoyable season Jimmy and the James Gang! Well done Bushy, sad news that he's off. Close season interviews excellent – does the laundry lady know the role she's playing – maybe a quick doorstep chat? 😀

  7. What a shame the season had to end, and with Mr Peck mysteriously absent too!

Just for my own amusement I thought I would rate the players on their performance this year – not a scientific study, they are based purely on gut feel and a sadly fading memory, so without further ado:

    Players
Bushy – 9 some great knocks, usually giving a solid and entertaining start to the innings
Tom – 9 Really solid, batted very well. A few wickets and quite a few catches too if I remember correctly
Henry – 9 Some lovely bowling and highly entertaining batting
Jonno – 8.5 Super swing bowling, always looks threatening, must be the unluckiest bowler in the league. Some useful lower order runs too. Loses half a mark for the occasional bit of petulance over decisions not going his way/dropped catches
Cal Harrison – 8 Useful runs and a tricky bowler, hard to get away and could get sharp turn with his offbreaks
Toby Smith – 8 A left handed bowler steaming in is always a wonderful sight, I like his aggressive style in both batting and bowling, though the former is rather hit or miss!
Tongy – 7.5 The languid batting and floppy hat are reminiscent of a right handed David Gower, and with the innocuous looking but sometimes effective spinners is a good all round package
Cal Rutherford – 7 Some great spells, the slingy action is awkward looking but on its day, very hard to play. Too few of his lusty hits!
Mad Dog – 6 Generally tidy behind the stumps but not outstanding, and batting a tad disappointing
Eddie – 5 Gave away his wicket cheaply too often, he is better than this! Some good bowling spells too, but interspersed with too many four balls
Toppers – 4 Batting was not great, maybe being captain took it out of him; I can only remember one good innings (on one leg?) Always seemed to be in the right position to take good catches though!
Ani – 3 Obviously has a lot of talent but is too aggressive early on, shuffles across his stumps and so got a lot of low scores. A shame as he is delightful to watch!

    Non-playing contributions
Mr Peck – 10 Wry humour and a mellifluous voice, allied with plenty of hard work made this channel my favourite cricketing tonic. The end of season award was richly deserved. NWLCC's most valuable asset!
Jimmy Nixon – 9.9 Another great voice in the commentary box (well, grassy knoll). Loses 0.1 points for describing every single as a "quick single" whether the batters have scrambled across the lines desperately or ambled along at a pace only just greater than an arthritic snail.
Washing – 2 A disappointing year, sometimes didn't turn up and when it did was inconsistent.

Apologies to anyone who feels unjustly maligned or if I've missed anyone out. Do chastise me in the comments below!

  8. Superb! Finishing the season with a win. Well batted Bushy. A great knock.
A million thanks to everyone at Wheatley for all the fun and entertainment. To finish 4th is a great position. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching every video. Roll on next year.
And Toby – don't leave please

  9. Great end to the season fella's. Thanks for the entertainment each sunday.
Can we have an end of season video with the seasons stats and averages please? Us accountants like our numbers!

  10. Well done to the Wheatley gang.
Nice to have the impromptu meet up in Lincoln on Saturday night – Wheatley and Milton lads having VIP booths next to each other in the club!
Hopefully no one playing on Sunday, as it was a bit of a messy night 😂😂😂
All t'best – from me (Ryan) and the rest of Milton lads.

  11. Congrats on a great season lads! Thank you Pecky & Jimmy for all the hard work & fantastic coverage once again this year, truly outstanding. Have a great off season everyone & roll on next April!

  12. I have really enjoyed following the boys this season! These videos have become part of my Sunday routine – what am I going to do now? haha. Well done, lads!

  13. To be cheeky but don’t know which way he is an Hour away but Kirkby Portland need some new players starting a Sunday team as well. Thanks for this season enjoyed watching it.

  14. A great finish to a very good season and loved seeing Henry getting wickets. Thanks for the coverage and well done on the award. Any ideas who you will have next season as your 'pro'?

  15. Well done Duane – Now you've got your eye in for a summer at Queanbeyan. Congrats to the team on a great season, and a heap of great videos to ge me through my winter.

  16. Enjoyed watching the games this season. Unfortunately the weather hasn’t be great. Hopefully Toby stays and you can get Bushy back next season such a classy player.

  17. Good on you blokes for doing this. Great winter viewing.
Time now to get ready for our season.
    Hooroo for now.

  18. "I feel like I'm watching the Ashes".
You can be assured that North Wheatley & Leverton results are much more important.

  19. I would like to thank all involved in the media side of the channel . Also to thank all the players for their efforts this season and wish the club good luck for the future .

  20. Congrats on a fab season even with Clare Balding in the side it was always a weekend treat to see what mayhem would ensue. Need more Maya next season to join the Pharoahs of Phraseology in the box. Brings a touch of Mrs Merton into proceedings in a linguistic symbiosis of rich tones and near breathless and unintentional hilarity. I can only echo the words of

@jonathangeddes-mcclure1923 – as he put it perfectly. Thank you all so much for bring a little sunshine into a pretty damp summer.

  21. Congrats on the season and the content. Couple of more consistent batting displays and there was a better chance of promotion but it wouldn't be NWLCC without a wobble.

Presumably Jimmy now has dibs on the next awards ceremony and Pecky can gtf if he thinks he's having so many holidays mid-season next year?

Suggestion: Video the club's awards night. Bonus points if there's a cage match to decide the bar name.

    Hasta 2024 cerrotes!
