  1. I really enjoy the behind the scene info you share Eddie, and your regular dives into VFL/AFL history of the game, the players and the clubs. I would like to see the 7 network spend a little bit more time on the club banners. People spend so much time constructing them each week. Fans watching on TV often only get a very brief pan across those magnificent banners. Often not enough time to even read them. Great show guys. GoPies 🖤🤍

  2. "natural sound", exactly. So many commentators on tv be it footy or soccer or whatever insist on shouting out their words rather than be smart and let the people at home get the feel the atmosphere of the crowd cheering and roaring. We know its a goal we know who kicked it, let the tv viewer soak in the ambience of the crowd.

  3. Jobe Watson is being promoted to Saturday nights on Ch 7. He is intolerable. The very WORST. I now can't watch Sat night footy. He surely has a speech impediment – he struggles to get out his words and puts pauses in his sentences where they should not be.
Ch 7 commentary is so bad and so easy to fix.

  4. Ken might be the biggest choke artist in AFL history.

Two finals wins in nine years is pathetic and wouldn' be tolerated at a Victorian club.

  5. I like commentators getting rev'd up (even if it's forced), as long as its during key moments and as long as there's a dedicated rev'd up guy and not a whole team of them. Huddo does, Gerard does it, Triple M does it etc

That said, I agree, let them soak up the moment, let the anthem play through once before interviews start and pause the commentary during the song.

  6. I think the decsions made about Luke Jackson after the 21 Grand final has truly cost Melbourne the past 2 finals series….. That 1 decision would have fixed the Melbournes problems. Can play forward can play in the ruck. Melbourne what have they missed the last 2 years answer a tall target in the forward line that can do some ruck work. They way they move the ball into the forward line Melbourne havnt moved on from the Luke Jackson forward line. The bombing in of the ball weve seen by the Dees this finals series was primed for Jackson.

  7. I agree with Ed on the 'Settle Down' aspect, let the experience actually happen first, let us absorb the energy instead of killing the vibe too soon to get chatter in.

  8. The Sporting Globe used to have match reports, goal kickers, ladder all games inc reserves.
The paper boy would deliver to your house at around 6.30 – 7pm on Saturday night. Final edition of The Herald as well.

  9. I agree with Ed. Commentary has been average at best, and I think that BT, JB etc etc (bar one or two who state the obvious) are no worries. But this finals series, they've been very poor and almost supporting for one team. Seriously, 1/2 way mark of 4th quarter – 10 minutes still on the clock – Carlton trailing by 3 points and I'm hearing "if Melbourne kick the next goal it's game over for Carlton ". Yes, Melbourne had the momentum but had not taken advantage, and, as football followers know about today's game, momentum can switch in a instant. Call the game but please keep your theatrics under control and actually watch the game as it plays out. Leigh Matthews says goals versus minutes. 4 goal up with 4 minutes to play, you can still lose. 4 up with 3 minutes to play you're pretty safe. Commentary should remember and adhere to LESS IS MORE. Go Blues, go AFL football – the greatest game

  10. Big fan of Ed. Used to love him on Triple M over here in uk. He takes a ton of flak (can see why!) but at least he passionately fights for his club.

  11. Channel 7 has the worst. Hamish is a pain. All he talks is stats. Darcy is a goose. Every week he says someone different is the greatest. Roming Brian is a joke. No one wants to talk to him and he's gotta talk to kids in the rooms. What a waste of time.

  12. 2:36 "I think Leon has done a mafia job…..marvelous job" Yeah, fair enough Eddie. The footy mafia and Sydney teams are joined by the bone. Fair call.

  13. Interviewing players directly after the siren in finals or grand finals is ridiculous. I’m sure the viewers don’t want the microphone shoved in players faces within seconds. Over the years it’s actually ruined the moment numerous times. Watching Crawford celebrate as an example or hodge is the great viewing, not being stopped in the moment and pulled away from teammates.
The media don’t get it. Eddie is correct. Let it breath. You’ll get the interview that a player doesn’t want to do and the fan doesn’t really care about eventuality. Just fan the camera across players and catch that moment instead of being selfish for a moment.

  14. JB has been the most annoying commentator this finals. Just yells players names and doesn’t actually say what’s happening. COMMENTATE

  15. With Eddie on this one. Do ch7 have any idea. BT is a pain in the ass in the rooms interfering in other people's jobs & moments. Bolton & Darcy stood right near umpires practising b4 game and ran into each other on air. Richo & BT are constantly stirring each other. This is our main event and yet we've still go amateur class telecasting it. The game was better in the late 70s, 80s & 90s. Its becoming an absolute w*nk.

  16. Melbourne never forgave Barassi for leaving Melbourne. I reckon he would have more chance of getting a stand named after him at my mob Carlton. He tool us out of the wilderness and set up what became 5 flags in 13 years.

  17. Who buys newspapers Ed? I am your age 58 and haven't bought a paper in ten years. I am a also a Printer so I fully understand that without the circulation its way too expensive to make happen. Time waits for no man sadly, the days of newspapers with wraparound covers for a Grand Final is gone.

  18. If the MCG was to be re-branded it should be the Melbourne Football and Cricket Ground (or Arena or Stadium) and by naming each wing after Barassi and Warne thus on either side of the ground you make this point without realising it.

The debate is simple, it should just become the "MFCG or the least option of MCFG" because there is more football played there on an annual basis than there is cricket.

  19. Agree. Call it the Barassi Stand or even better the The Ron Barassi Stadium. That would upset the poms and have the cricket wallahs choking on their curry. What is not to like
