How To Get Out The Bunker EVERY Time

Bunkers are the marmite of golf. Some players love them and have no issue at all getting the ball out and near the flag, and others play in fear of ever entering the sand, knowing they are just as likely to leave the ball in the bunker than get out of it, and there isn’t often anything in between.

If you want to learn how to escape bunkers, then you can watch the video below to see how Hannah Holden and PGA Golf Professional Jack Backhouse work on their technique and improve their bunker play to make bunker shots easy.

  1. I find I have to get the club face square rather than open at my course, because there is b*gger all sand in our bunkers 🙁

  2. Nice to see Hanah. Some good advice on this problematic situation. First rule. Don't go in bunkers!

  3. “You’re gonna need a blanket and suntan lotion, cause you’re never gonna get off that beach”……..words I live by 😐

  4. My first goal is to never hit the ball into a bunker😅 But seriously, the three basic goals I was taught about bunker play were #1 – Get it out (on the first try), #2 – Get it on (the green), and #3 – Get it close (to the hole (for a gimme)).
So when I practice bunker shots (rarely, I admit), I play a point game based on how many of the 3 goals I achieved with 10 balls.

  5. But every bunker is different! Some are full of soft sand others are rough and linksy! My problem is at Epsom, no bunkers, when we play away, golf, 😅 it’s very difficult! Then there are fairway and Greenside!!!!!!!!!

  6. I've been watching the Dan Grieve/Rick Shiels short game lesson too. I'm amazed at all of the different ways there are at hitting bunker shots. Great video Hannah. Thanks.
