Tikka 300 WSM 180 gr Nosler Accubond Load Development

My last few reloading videos were for my 308 Win which my son used to kill his first deer. I’ve been wanting a magnum 30 cal rifle to hunt with and bought a TIkka 300 WSM. I had good performance in the past, and here in this video I worked on Nosler Accubond 180 gr load development with H4350 powder and Remington 9 1/2 magnum primers.

  1. I’d suggest following the coal nosler puts in their load data. They actually put in a lot of work into finding the most accurate load and seating depth. With that said, I’ve found that the accubond likes to be seated at .050-065 off lands and at .100-.120 off lands. There’s plenty of info on various sites like long range only or long range hunting only or even rockslide and I think it’s chuckhawks. I’ve found the consensus to be accurate in my application.

  2. Just commented on your video prior to this one where you started with the 180 Barnes. I'm shooting my new Tikka 300WSM tomorrow with 180 Nosler AB, Nosler new brass, WLRM primers. COAL 3.135. My gunsmith lengthened the throat so I can seat bullets out further and hopefully optimize the utility of the case capacity with more powder. In essence I'm cloning the concept of the Hornady PRC design. With this bullet I'm trying IMR4350, Re22, and StaBALL 6.5 first

I went to the Hodgdon reloading data webpage and saw Superformance used with a lighter weight bullet and excellent velocity. May try that as well. I've had excellent speeds in my 270s and 280 Rem with that powder and lighter wt bullets

  3. If you are loading ammunition for a hunting rifle why not fire 2 shot groups and let the rifle cool?
When you heat up the barrel with so many shots the groups grow substantially (depending on barrel profile). If the rifle can put 2 rounds in a tight group then you are good to go.
