After being dead for 25 minutes of the football game, Michigan State’s offense came alive in the 2nd half to stage a 31-7 win in East Lansing. The Spartans’ defense collected 3 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 5 passes defended, while also holding Central Michigan quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr to only 41 rushing yards. Despite their best performance, the Chippewas stood no chance against Mel Tucker and his roster on Friday night. Despite their initial struggles, there were several players on Michigan State’s roster that impressed. Running back Nathan Carter was impressive because he was the only player who was consistent for all four quarters on offense. Carter had over 100 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown today. Quarterback Noah Kim had a great 2nd half, and wide receivers Jaron Glover, Christian Fitzpatrick, and Tyrell Henry had a breakout game in their own right. On defense, linebackers Cal Haladay and Jacoby Windmon led a quiet but impressive performance. This offense needs better play calling, but Scottie Hazelton may have finally figured it out on defense. The reaction to this game should be one of cautious optimism for Michigan State Football. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

Based on today's performance, what is your biggest concern regarding Michigan State Football? What about Michigan State Football are you the most pleased with?
The defense looked much better. Credit to Scotty Hazelton

I will say from watching the game the defense was much improved, but it took awhile for the offense to get going. That wouldn’t be bad against a lesser opponent, but would be a problem against elite programs.
Sparty is happy!
MSU looked undisciplined. They had back-to-back personal foul face mask penalties in the first half. They were very nasty and need to be officiated on a short leash.
EDIT: Rules don't apply when we play Michigan State. Dominate them and don't allow the refs to meaningfully impact the game… because they absolutely will. I promise they will.
alot of these teams are just starting slow ,it is their first games ,i am expecting my buckeyes today to start very slow in the first half the buckeyes for years always are slow starters for first 3 games of the season
I’m still incredibly suspect about our cornerback coaching. It seems like they are consistently out of position, but maybe I’m just jaded
There was a part of the game when both Berger and Carter had 5 carries. Carter had over 40 yards while Berger had 4. Carter is Definitely the better runner.
Its cmu they should have won by 40 or more. You gone know what your team is when Washington comes to town
Good game Spartans we just beat a pretty good football team with ease. QB and RB both looked fantastic. WR and TE need to catch the ball when it hits them in the face or hands. Defense was very solid.
Most important thing to note is that the Spartan dawgs responded when CMU started feeling themselves, the QB was getting cocky etc. Spartan Dawgs responded to that and shut it down and threw away the key after that
You are right about them dumb 4th and short runs out of shotgun…. dude….is it that hard to run I formation two tight ends for one play and pick up a yard? Gonna try a run out of shotgun and hand it off 5yds behind line where whole defense can see exactly where the ball is? Any coach that runs out of shotgun on 4th and short is lazy minded and narrow minded
Please stop putting scores in your thumbnail. There is really no reason a score has to be there. You can just put game reaction and it won’t change the amount of views you get. 2 game in a row spoiled.
The game started out sloppy which is to be expected. a lot of players playing new roles. Once it was cleaned up in the second half MSU dominated on both sides of the ball. This is a better MSU team right down to the kicking game. GO GREEN!!!
Bro, let's inject some enthusiasm into the commentary. The monotone is putting me to sleep
Kim played much better in the second half, looks like we actually have a kicker which is great. Receivers dropped some catchable balls which is concerning. Defense was ok, I’m reserving judgement until we play Washington.
Central Michigan @ Penn State 2022:
CMU 17
PSU 33
Don't sell CMU short. CMU had more fans at this game than the Happy Valley game
Jalen Berger ran far side into the endzone. Don't crap on Berger.
Had chips +21.5, thought they had it
So the WR group you had as a double arrow down looked a hell of a lot better than that. Predicting a 50+ point game from a new QB in his first start, in the opener is crazy as well.
GO GREEN
"MclEwan is an average to horrible coach" "I expected MSU to win by 55 points" -LMAO. If you want MSU fans to follow you, don't be such a UM homer. Vegas spread was 14.5 points for MSU. So Sam, did you make a heavy bet on MSU?? LOL, prolly not. MSU did better than Vegas expectations. Apparently unlike you Sam, Vegas didn't expect MSU to score 55 points. Penn State couldn't score more than 33 against this "average to lousy coach" last year.
I'm going to laugh SO HARD when Michigan craps the bed this year. People probably forget but that Michigan team who got embarrassed by Appalachian State was predicted to win a national title. Another UM natty….on paper.
And what's worse for UM fans is that the window for Harbaugh to win a natty is quickly closing. UM loses a ton of guys this year. And no more 9 games in a row at HOME to start the season while avoiding road games like Washington. And playing nothing but cake teams non-conf. The schedules going forward are much harder.
most boring video on youtube
MSU's special teams looks improved overall. The kicker made a deep one in the game and Tyrell Henry looks as though he is going to break loose on a few returns this year
26.23 Michigan will not be beating Richmond next week. I know another team that will.
Unrelated, but Colorado vs TCU was one of the wildest games I’ve ever watched and the hype for Deion Sanders is real (except the defense needs work).
GO BLUE!
I didn't think mswho would have enough players to play with the transfers and criminal behavior lol
Offense Coordinator/scheme/play calling are the Problem.
Jade Johnson can not start off that slow again, I don’t care who the opponent is.
After Central finally scored. MSU scored in 54 seconds and took over the game. So we have to just wait until the Washington game to see what this team really will be
Was it a misstatement or does every video need to have some footing about u of m? (regarding the cmu qb statement) It's not like u of m was involved in this game, so why bring them up?
Sam if you want more MSU subscribers and fans I would suggest not talking about Michigan during your MSU analysis. That was kind of freaking weird it was almost like you couldn’t help yourself.
I’m thinking we didn’t want to put too much on film (offensively)
Every single year. The first few games of the season for every single team is difficult in college football. Look at Ohio State in 2014. They lost badly to Virginia Tech in their second game of the season. This same Virginia tech team went on to finish the season 6-6. Ohio State won the national championship that same year and whooped Alabamas ass in the semi final with their 3rd string qb. Point being, you can’t take anything away from the first game in a vacuum. We will have to see how msu looks after the Washington or Maryland game to really get any gauge on how good the team will be this season.
Great candid commentary and Saturday show. I’d like to give a nod to the defensive backfield. First, no one left with an injury. Good open field tackles. All stepped up and delivered on their assignments. Yes, there was the one TD but I didn’t see anything glaring like arm tackles or receivers getting over the top. Full credit to the D Line for the assist but good on them. Go Green! V4MSU!
Im excited about Glover, Nathan Carter and Tyrell Henry offensively. I do agree that Kim struggled early and didnt play well but it was his first real game action. The defense played real well after CMUs first possesion but i am going to withhold all judgement of not only the defense but the offense as well. It looks like MSU will be better in the kicking game. Hopefully this week the Spartans will come out strong and play well in the 1st half and we can see more of Katin Houser. No need to panic about anything but i canmot be overconfident either. This team has quite a bit to prove.
The DLine is so nasty
Excited to see what MSU can do with the power back Jaren Mangham once he’s healthy. Should be a huge help in those 4th and short plays or on the goal-line.
My biggest question is if that second half quality of QB play can be sustained. The Washington game will be very telling of how far this team can go this year
You know this team was deplorable last year when everyone in the living room started cheering EVERYTIME the kicker hit a field goal or extra point 😂
I’m forreal
1st half was big drops and missed passes by QB The 2nd half was the opposite! 1/2 of game for 1st game it's normal to have gitters.
Great work as always Sam. Go Green!
Hard to tell what MSU’s defense is because CMU has such a poor offense. Emanuel is a WR playing QB. CMU had zero downfield passing which enabled MSU to squash the run game in the second half.
CMU went 4-8 last and they don’t look to be much better this year.
MSU beat WMU in a similar fashion last year. Struggle with a bad MAC team before taking over in second half. They destroyed Akron the next week. They will destroy Richmond this week.
MSU still has a lot of questions to answer. Answers that won’t start to come until Washington comes to town in two weeks.
Great win but its central michigan…. washington game will show everything you need to know about msu.
Dominated band destroyed CMU. Will definitely win the Big this year.
What about noah kims 65 yard absolute DOT at the end of the half that hit the recievers face?!?!
The experts picked MSU to win by -14.5 points.
MSU beat the spread. Good news for MSU.
As Noah Kim goes, so does the entire team. As Noah gets more experience the Spartans will role. Not worried at all about slow start, MSU will compete. Penn State is team to beat.
I can’t stop thinking about Kim’s Hell Mary pass that hit Foster in the face. That would have gave Noah Kim around 330 yards passing.
I also think they’re saving him for the option because he only ran like once. There were definitely times he should have kept it and ran
Kim is a total Chang (asian Chad)
