We love a derby here at Wheatley and we welcomed townie chums Retford to HQ this Saturday.
We are very much Retford’s bogey team in recent seasons and were looking to use that to our advantage as both sides were desperate to bounce back from defeats the previous weekend.

What an exciting game. A win by 4 runs – brilliant! Superb batting and bowling by both sides.
The umpire was right. The batsman tried to conjure a wide, ending up jumping over the ball.

Their opener has no excuse throwing down the stumps when fielding, with all the practice he gets throwing it from 22yds.

No controversy with that penultimate ball. Lad backed away to leg then jumped over the ball. Retford would’ve won if half their batsmen knew a shot other than the ‘swish’, and the opener who took 100+ balls for 57.

A rare Monday off today so saved this for a morning viewing. Terrific match and some top performances. Thought Eddie bowled really well and help turn things around despite the odd buffet moment. Lord of the Lexicon did a fine job on the mic too and upheld the tradition of missing every great catch, so well done Jimmy. (Remains unforgiven at the date of posting though….)

Jimmy – your voice is a wonder. No one can reel off 'humungous' like you. If you can bear to share the same clod as the inestimable Mr Peck after the bar farago, then I say double teaming for the rest of the season is a no brainer.
However, I must reconcile myself to Waterfield filth replacing Waterfield dob in my unfettered affections. I'm not there yet, maybe a slightly longer shirt will help? Anyway, he seems to have nicked Tong's Timing with bat – a many splendoured thing.

As said below – that opening bowler is chucking – you can see it very clearly if you slow down to 1/4 speed.
Nice to see sportsmanship from Retford when Tom and George got their 50's and reciprocated when V Saini abd G Mann got theirs. At 24:57 Toby did really well to save 3 runs off the Leg Bye – a great lesson for younger players. If they had got those 3 runs the end could have been very different.

Always good to see Redford lose. 50 years ago they had the great Derek Randall and some good quickies, however they also had some abrasive individuals who made them unpopular with the rest of the league. Well done the Wheatley boys. Top bowling in the later overs onward and upwards ?

Tough week of viewing. You lads fielded a bit like the beasts in the sheep field. Horley missed out on a promotion win and Sanderstead got relegated after a 10 wicket thrashing. Shout out to all who bring club cricket to YT. Epic.
