What Mickelson had to LEARN to win his first MASTERS
Phil Mickelson starts the video off by showing how to chip low running shots around the green. Phil Mickelson explains how there are only two ways to make low running chip shots. The first way is to use a less lofted club. He demonstrates a low running chip with a 9 iron. Phil Mickelson then demonstrates how to perform a low running shot with a high lofted 60 degree wedge. Phil Mickelson explains the only variable that changes when using a high lofted club is the ball position. The ball must be positioned just off the instep of the rear foot with a 60 degree wedge. Moving the ball position to the instep of the rear foot delofts the club face and creates a low running chip shot. The second method consists of putting from off the green. This is what Mickelson had to change in his short game in order to win his first Masters. He explains how crucial it is for the golfer to read the fairway for speed and not the putting green. Phil Mickelson demonstrates this to the audience and almost sinks a putt from the fairway.
