  1. Solid video guys. They have to do it March, everybody gets that. But they sure will be fun to watch.

  2. Purdue was a good team last year but definitely not as strong as their 1 seed would indicate. Teams like IU showed the country that Purdue was vulnerable. Hard to win in March when you get swept by your “less talented” rival

  3. the other thing about Virginia losing to a 16 seed that people forget is that that Virginia team was probably a top 30 or 40 team all time. That team went 17-2 in a good ACC (it had some weak teams as the ACC always does, but going 17-2 is still incredible), won the ACC regular season and tournament title, and had some incredible players, which they returned the next season to win the title. The team did not suck, and nor did Purdue last year. The similarities are certainly there.

  4. People keep pointing to the 3-pt shooting but what a lot of people don't realize is that Purdue went into the tournament with the best shot quality in the country. It's pretty inexplicable that so many shots didn't go down. There's not much there to "fix" because I think guys just got into their own heads. Just like Dauster said, the percentages should come up for most everyone and it won't take a huge jump to give Purdue a comfortable margin in games

  5. Great show!! I am as diehard a Purdue fan as anyone but am I also skeptical about several of the pieces that Painter returns. I believe that Painter is one of the special coaches in the country but I believe that his staff may end up being the biggest pieces that lead them to the success I feel that will come to fruition this season. Brandon Brantley's role in developing Zach has been extremely underrated and will continue to show this upcoming season. I think Sasha Stefanovic may impact Braden, Fletch, Morton and Colvin in a shooting % turnaround that will define this season's success. If Sasha and PJ Thompson can get Mason, Ethan and Fletch stroking it confidently this season may be a special one!!

  6. They so bias on this show‼️They grade everybody but Memphis,Only time they speak on us is to hate or be derogatory. It’s sad RC the only one who keeps it real when speaking on Penny and the tigers.Penny put a great squad together and we coming in hot dis year🚀

  7. Talk about the team everyone wants to hear about. What about them cats💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍🤍💙🤍

  8. Crazy how a school like Purdue gets more traction and hype than uconn. Purdue never won a single title

  9. Someone in that decision room for the NCAA tourney has to be an IU grad, not talking about previous years, but last year that Purdue team struggled against older, longer guards, and Purdue's first game was a team full of older players, and long guards. If anyone had bothered to read up on that team, they could have seen this as a huge 1 vs 16 risk. I'm a Purdue fan, and I would have bet against them when I heard the pregame.

  10. Catchings just transferred from Brownsburg HS to Overtime Elite for his Senior Year.
Thats who Purdue has coming in next year 🏀

  11. Purdue runs the table this year. That's the only thing that will get rid of the FDU stench.

  12. Purdue should be a better team. However, they had one of the easiest Big Ten Schedules and had their best start in program history. Bringing back the same team is good but if they have the same gameplan then teams such as IU and FDU showed how to beat them. I think they should make the sweet 16 however, you never know what to expect and I personally would never put my money on Purdue in the Post season.

  13. Painter will be spreading the floor this year. Zach can shoot the ball and is athletic af! Will Berg is 7'2" and was brought over from Sweden last year. Hes been in the program for a year.
Becomes a slasher/ playmakers dream. Assists go up as open 3's, pick n pops, lay ups go up 🤜🤛
    Boiler Up Bayyybeee!!!
Dont sleep on Catchings next year guys.

  14. Oddly enough, Morton is a shooter. Pennsylvania Gatorade POTY. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are in Pennsylvania. Not an easy task…

  15. Season ticket holder and can't wait to be back in Mackey!! The new pieces are going to be a huge boost! Heide and Colvin are freakishly athletic and Berg adds another big with unique abilities. These guys, along with the returning nucleus – watch out! Big things coming…

  16. Ethan Morton isn’t on his extra year right? It’s just his normal senior season I thought

  17. Purdue doesnt do title or bust. Great season last year. Got upset. Major upset. Disappointing. None of that heads will roll attitude. Gotta chance to be like Virginia, maybe win the whole thing in 2024. Been some really good years lately. Keep trying to get over that hump.

  18. I have to agree with both Rob and Greg! That said you are both sleeping on Cam Heide and also William Berg who can shoot the 3!

  19. This is all about the Gene Keady style of play being excellent in the regular season but terrible in the postseason. Think of the Oakland A's when they were winning 100 games playing Moneyball but losing in the postseason. Billy Beane's famous quote without the vulgar word was, "My stuff doesn't work in the playoffs."

There is a reason why this is so. What might work against all the mediocre and worse teams doesn't necessarily work against the top teams. Keady, and his disciples (Painter, Kevin Stallings, Cuonzo Martin, Steve Lavin, Bruce Weber, and others) coach the same style of basketball–a patient, non-gambling, conservative style that may do better against mediocre teams than the style that wins in the Big Dance. But, Purdue isn't playing mediocre teams. In the NCAA Tournament, there are things that have a long history of leading to success. I refer to my cousin's PiRate Ratings, as he has isolated the crucial components of winning in March and April. He refers to Clark Kellogg's old "Spurtability" factor, where a team can force turnovers, especially steals, run the fast break, and go on a 10-point run in short time.

Keadyball doesn't lead to these types of spurts. Purdue had to win by playing halfcourt basketball and hoping to win more patterned possessions than the opponent. The Big Ten Championship Game against Penn State exposed their glaring weakness. Not only could Purdue not play a pressure defense that put defenders in the passing lanes, but the offensive perimeter lacked the needed quickness to exploit opponent pressure defenses. Fairleigh-Dickinson could exploit that weakness.

When Virginia won the national title, their offense had moved away from Blocker-Mover, and their defense incorporated more pressure off the ball in their pack line. Their numbers only marginally improved offensively, but they improved in the number of easy fast break baskets in 2019 versus 2018, and they performed better on the offensive glass. They had to come from behind to beat Gardner-Webb in the 2019 first round, and they did so by pressuring GW out of their offense. Close wins over Oregon, Purdue, and Auburn would probably not have been possible the prior year.

If Purdue wants to get to the 2024 Final Four, then Coach Painter needs to find perimeter players that can apply pressure on and off the ball, and the Boilermakers needs to be able to score 4 or 5 cheap baskets per game off fast breaks, in a combination of rebounds and steals.

Lee Rose and George King both used pressure defense and fast break offense. Purdue can be a Final Four team, but it is debatable whether Painter will be open to making a major change in his philosophy. A former Purdue alum made such a change as a coach in the early 1960s, and he proceeded to win 10 national championships in 12 years.

  20. Basically the intro explains this…they love Painter because he's a great guy and a great interview and they want him to succeed, but until he actually does, the skepticism is valid and deserved.

  21. A team that's still slow, can't shoot, and history of being overrated??? You guys like pumping up teams with coaches that give you good interviews lol

  22. My top five: Kansas, Purdue, Duke, Connecticut, Michigan State. It's Final Four or bust for Purdue.

  23. Don't forgetHeidi can shoot and very athletic wing and knows the system. 3 pt will be much improved without a doubt. Painter is making some slight adjustments. Edey was not that close to leaving. He went into camp knowing he was a last 5 pick. He got his feedback. Thats why he didn't even do the scrimmages just the testing. He will make very good money in NIL and NBA will be there next year to be a 13-17 roster spot hoping for few minutes of game time with probably a good offer to really play and make money after just couple years (or less) in NBA. He knows this and understands it. This info coming from people around Edey at Purdue……Purdue does have huge recruit in Catchings coming in along with one of top shooters in country in 2024 class. Catchings & Colvin in lineup at sametime could be special.

  24. Fwiw this isn’t Ethan Morton’s “extra year.” This is his 4th season. He still have his covid year left if he decides to use it (hopefully that doesn’t happen).

  25. I do think Painter has adjusted. Look at his freshmen and top recruits, Kanon Catchings is a 5 star floor stretcher, Myles Colvin super athletic wing who led team USA u19 in three point shooting percentage, Cam Heide super athletic wing, and Jack Benter a guard who breaks backboards and regularly drops 50 points. These aren't tall slow guys, these are guys who are ready to run and gun.
