Matt & Alex Fitzpatrick advice to his Open debutant brother “I’ve told him not to speak to you lot”

Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick will be the latest pair of brothers to compete for the Claret Jug when the 151st Open Championship starts on Thursday.

“I’ve given him some advice” said the 2022 US Open winner, “Don’t talk to you lot (the media)!”

Fitzpatrick made his name at the 2013 Open at Muirfield where he won the Silver Medal as leading amateur, and he says he owes some of that success to his coach Mike Walker.

“He stressed – don’t tire yourself out. I think I played nine holes on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, so I think that was kind of similar to what Alex should do.”

24-year-old Alex, who only turned pro a year ago, came through the notoriously tough Open qualifying process.

His brother is the World Number nine, but is not playing at his best at the moment.

“All jokes aside, I would be happy with top 30 this week. I really do.”

He finished T20 last year at St Andrews.
