US Ryder Cup Team Captain, Zach Johnson, is playing defense and trying to defend his controversial player selections against a barrage of criticism.
The latest comes from Tiger Woods’ ex-coach, Hank Haney, who called out the US Ryder Cup Captain for picking Justin Thomas, calling the Ryder Cup Team a “boys club.” With fan favorites like Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas being selected for the Ryder Cup over hotter players like Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and a others, it’s no surprise that Captains Zach Johnson and Freddie Couples are having to defend their Ryder Cup picks as the US Ryder Cup Team heads to Italy to face off against a strong European Ryder Cup Team. So is Hank Haney correct in saying the US Ryder Cup Team is a “boys club” or is Zach Johnson justified in the reasoning behind his selection of Justin Thomas and others as Captain’s Picks?

Zach is already a joke as a coach, with his picks. Yes Zach is part of boys club. Sam Burns should be on not Justin. I get the feeling that if Spieth and Fowler were already in there would have been pressure to bring JT for the ride.
But the argument that he played well in France when he was in great form, may not translate well to Italy when he is very much out of form.
Replace with Bryson
If anything LIV wins should count for more because they're always in the team environment

Glover and Keegan got shafted! It’s definitely a boys club and now these guys know where they stand. Couples likes to talk but as a vice captain he should have never said anything about Cam Young being picked. All I know is that the US is indeed heavily favored BUT JT, Spieth, and Sam Burns better show up and show out because those picks are questionable.

It's bullshit statements, if majors only matters for liv players then Reed should definitely been in conversation, he's also someone with amazing record. And amazing around the greens. He made all cuts in majors and was top 4 at the Masters. And yes even though he doesn't care about LIV. Reed have been very good at LIV aswell.

The US team is not heavily favored at all. Europe is pretty stacked 1-8 and are playing on home soil. I think the current odds are USA -130 must win.

Too often today people say things when asked to justify a situation, that hold no weight, truth or logic. Couple’s response emulates that, and his irrational responses to LIV golf news in the past leave me with no respect for the guy. Right now Team USA in any sport is so politically tainted that makes it hard to assimilate team and country

I have to think that in picking a team to play "Team Golf" the coach looks for comradery. As fans we want to only look at the talent we've seen on the tour and that doesn't always give the reason of who is better or not. When playing a team sport energy comes from others that you feel close too or fee you can talk to in a more close way.
Sounds to me like the team had more of a “yes or no” to the possible selections and the Capt’s are taking the heat, as they should. I think they’ve discovered over the last 4-5 Ryder Cups, that the lockeroom atmosphere, togetherness, and cohesion needed to be addressed. They got results they were looking for, and they’re sticking to the formula. Unfortunately Keegan, Glover, and others, aren’t “buddy-buddy” with the core 5-6 players. Once the LIV dust settles, and we approach the ‘25 Ryder Cup, a lot of questions in retrospect, will be answered.
I think Dustin is to eratic. On the other hand, this is a LIV vs PGA. Till this is settled this will be the norm.
I wouldn’t bet on team USA. The Euros just have way to much bravado on their soil. Brooks is the only intimidating player we got, and that ain’t enough. Just my opinion of course.

Choosing JT over guys like Lucas Glover, Bradley and Dechambeau was surprising but certainly when JT is in form he's as good as anybody in the world. If he plays well (and I think he will) it will vindicate the pick but man if he doesn't Zach Johnson will take some heat.
Do people not remember the past 20 years and the Euros kicking the US’s tails? How did they do it? They created TEAMS with good friends and didn’t care about rankings! You HAVE to have 12 guys that all have connections that’s why Tiger and Phil didn’t work. They HATED each other. These guys have all grown up together and been competing together for years! This is a great TEAM!
