Q.
The ball has come to rest, the player has then walked towards it and the ball has started moving. What happens now?
.
.
A.
It needs to be determined as to whether the player caused the ball to move. In this situation, was it known or at least 95% virtually certain that the player caused the ball to move. The answer is no, there is a high likelihood that natural forces (wind, gravity) caused the ball to move. Therefore the player plays the ball from where it came to rest.
Rule 9.2
.
Note: it would be a different answer if the player had already marked, lifted and replaced their ball on the putting green.
