Interesting. I went to American Golf a year or so ago to try out some clubs that only they had in stock. It wasn't a fitting and they gave me the 7 iron off the rack to hit at my leisure at the range. It was taped up to avoid damage as they wanted to sell those irons after I was done. I didn't realise the tape would have an affect, but I don't think they were trying to con me (there was no fitter or charge).
I'm fortunate enough to now live within a short drive to TWO PGA TOUR Superstores, in Myrtle Beach. So much competition now between manufacturers that there is no shortage of demo clubs, if not outright fitting carts from each manufacturer in the stores.

There's no need to "con" golfers. They are by nature, the most gullible of all hobbyists.

Who uses tape nowadays? I havent seem that in 10 years
My takeaway from this video is that I can't take a few strokes off my game by putting tape on irons 😂
When I had a Ping fitting, the pro brought out a trolley full of 7 irons. He didn’t tape them. He measured my wrist to the floor, swing speed, height etc. I’m 6’1 and was fitted for standard length, regular flex, blue dot irons.
Never ever seen parcel tape used!!! They used one layer of clear sticky lined tape when I went, dont think your video is accurate
