He didn't name anyone in particular. He referred to rankings and then spoke about there likely being some potential upsets. This account doesn't name any other teams being 'omitted' either, so I assume his full answer didn't either. He has inclusive of every team from #6 up, as being potential winners. A good diplomatic Richie answer I'd say, just what one would expect from him.

I don't rate the current Springboks, you always should but so many other teams look better. As always, the end result will be as Richie said, which team has both the lucky bounce of the ball and turns in a superior performance on the day, who enters the final the strongest after a few grueling rounds.

As a Bok fan, I think McCaw may well be right. France, Ireland and Italy are playing incredible intelligent rugger which seems beyond the Boks. The ABs look like a team that has all it's dots in a row. Talent, strenght, fitness, team cohesion, mental strenght and focus and strategy…. I think the Boks can beat many of these teams on a good day, but they need the rub of the green. They can't make mistakes, they will have to raise their game and go to the maximum edge of their skills, to match to the skills of their rivals. Can they manage that game after game?

As a stalwart 60+ year old All Black supporter there are also a number of Bokke players past and present l have a great deal of respect and admiration for.
Today l met a couple that immigrated to NZ around about the time Covid hit.
I mentioned how much of a better performance the Bokke had put in their drubbing of Wales and that l wished the Bokke the best in next weeks clash against against the ABs at Twickenham.
It wasn't surprising that we both harboured a similar mindset should our respective teams be knocked out that we would get behind and cheer on each others respective team if they reach the final.
Thatt may sound weird to some, however to us (and other SA expat friends and acquaintances l have) it seems only logical to prioritise the 2 teams, followed by any of the other Southern Hemisphere teams.

As an ABz fan My father always told me the toughest team to play is the Boks! The same applies to today. Ireland are good today but historically they are a very inconsistent team. Over the last 100 plus years the Boks and the ABz have generally been near the top
