Top 10 Reasons – I no longer swing like Moe

I am asked very often about why I no longer swing like Moe or teach his swing so this video will address. Hopefully it will get rid of any confusion people may have. I tried learning and teaching the swing of moe norman for over 15 years, and finally gave up some years ago. This video gives the reasons why I no longer swing or teach Moe’s swing.

I believe as an instructor that I should always work to make my instruction easier for each client to follow, and learn. With the ultimate goal being immediate improvement. That is what has lead me my entire career to improving what I do, which also means changing and evolving. My Setup 4 Impact method is a result of over 37 years of learning and evolving. I enjoy helping my clients play the best golf of their lives.

My Setup 4 Impact® golf method makes it easier to hit any golf shot. Simply setting up on your impact plane and then swinging on one single plane makes the game easier. I customize the simple concept to fit each individual golfer regardless of age, flexibility, and natural ability. I will help you improve faster than any other way. I have worked over 35 years in developing this simple golf swing method which can help anybody play better golf quickly. Many do better their next time out. Because it is easier to repeat it is also easier on the body. Putting less stress on the back, hips, and knees.

ABOUT KIRK JUNGE
———————–
Kirk Junge began playing golf at the age of 5. After a successful Junior Golf career, Kirk turned professional in 1986. He has played on the Dakotas Tour, the Teardrop Tour, the South Florida PGA and the SouthWest Ohio PGA where he captured one victory.

More recently Kirk played tournament golf again for the first time in almost 20 years in 2021 where he finished second in the Senior division in the United States Golf Teachers Cup in Las Vegas, NV. There were Golf teaching professionals from around the USA playing in this competition which took place in 30 to 40 MPH winds. Kirk competed again in 2022 and again finished second with rounds of 69, and 73.

In the year 1996, Kirk began to teach the golf swing of Moe Norman, and shortly thereafter taught with the Natural Golf Corporation, where he stayed until 2005. During that time he was one of the top instructors and was responsible for answering over 3000 golf technique questions on the Natural Golf forum. He was a licensed instructor with the Graves Golf Academy from 2014 to 2016. Kirk also holds several other certifications with the United States Golf Teachers Federation, the World Golf Teachers Federation, and is a former PGA of Europe member.

After leaving Natural Golf, Kirk headed to Pforzheim, Germany where he ran his own Golf Academy until 2014.

In 2005, Kirk set his sights on creating a simpler golf swing, which led to the creation of Setup 4 Impact Golf. Using his 20+ years of golf instruction experience and his knowledge of the many different golf methods. Kirk has distilled golf knowledge from some of the best golf instructors in the world to create the Setup 4 Impact golf swing. His instructors included the likes of Wild Bill Melhorn, Jimmy Ballard, Terry Crouch, Artie McNickle, Chuck Hogan and Dave Pelz, and many more.

Kirk’s main goal is to help golfers improve their game as quickly as possible.

Kirk has taught golf for 35 years now. He has taught various golf methods including for Natural Golf Corporation, Single Axis golf, and the Graves Golf Academy. Kirk invented the Minimalist golf swing method which had you setup and swing on a single plane, which has evolved into his currently taught Setup 4 Impact swing which is the Ultimate golf swing because it is built to fit every golfer regardless of shape, size, age, or ability. The Setup4Impact golf swing very closely resembles the swing of Bryson DeChambeau who also sets up on his impact plane. Kirk’s number one goal is to help you improve at golf.

Kirk Junge currently teaches his “Setup 4 Impact” swing full-time in West Palm Beach, Florida year round, as well as Cincinnati, Ohio, Reading, PA, and Sanford, NC a couple times per year. Other locations coming soon including California. More info at https://setup4impact.com/kirk-junge/

  1. You are correct one size doesn't fit all, thanks for the information as this has helped answer some of my questions about the single plane swing method…

  2. Kirk, I am so grateful that you had the courage to post this video. We are all individuals playing golf, and our setups, swings, and impact positions are different. We are not tour pros, and we should not be taught as one. I look forward to your future videos.

  3. I tried a neutral grip and it was terrible slices. As soon as I strengthened my grip it stared going straight. Thanks

  4. After 20 years with the general method, and lots of standing farther and closer, more and less side bend, etc., I’d agree with all 10 points.

  5. Each has to find their own. It has dramatically helped me get back after 30+ years. Simplify the swing is key. Don’t overthink. Just try to simplify and reduce the multiple abnormalities created in the standard swing.

  6. Loving your videos. A beginner at 71, hopefully can make one of your schools soon. I live in London Ontario so Cincinnati isn’t too far away..keep up the great videos 😊

  7. Wow. I worked out almost everything you were talking about for myself over the last few days (maybe weeks) at the range. I strengthened my grip to two knuckles (and went to jumbo grips). I narrowed my stance slightly and felt I could just get my hips through faster and steadier. I was worried I was too close to the ball but I hit it way better where I thought was 'quite' close. Stayed more upright which gave me way more consistency. This totally reinforces everything now, so thanks. I've been doing your ball striking drills for a few weeks, which are fantastic. I had to replace a few grips anyhow, but wasn't committed to the jumbo grip yet; went and changed driver, 3, uty. 2, and PW to start. They're really good. Rest of the bag is getting changed asap. Thanks again for all your great videos. I'm hitting it better than ever.

  8. Couldn't agree more. Moe was Moe and attempting to perfectly imitate him is pointless.
I've found, with my irons, if I take my normal swing, with the exception of starting in impact position and also starting the swing with the clubhead a foot or more behind the ball (while never taking my eyes off the ball during the swing), I've been striking it better than I ever have….and I'm 60.

  9. Hey Kirk, great video. Truth is we all want to copy what Moe accomplished not how he accomplished it. For me, finding the simplest way to make more consistent impact started with your SetUp4Impact system. You helped me tame my natural swing so that I can enjoy the game more & I am playing better golf at age 70 than I have my whole life.
To anyone reading this comment, he can do the same for you if you are willing to listen and apply the customizable strategies he has developed. I wholeheartedly recommend Kirk & Setup4Impact

Hi Kirk, thanks for this very nice video, full of humility and common sense. I'm 64, hcp 7.6 and have been swinging for over thirty years as a self-taught player, so your courageous take on this swing by genius Moe Norman doesn't surprise me. I've known the name Moe Norman for eight years thanks to a pro (from Shawn Clement's Wisdomingolf) Edouard Montaz, and I realized from watching Moe swing that what I was doing was instinctively natural and effective. I also know that the club is stronger than I am, and that to swing your weight effortlessly and painlessly, it helps to understand the club's architecture. Your help here is very interesting, you highlight the improvements we could make to what we do without starting from scratch. Your advice is invaluable and inspiring. I've just changed my standard grips for midsize ones, and it's a joy… It's hard for me to translate your lyrics on youtube, but I hope I get the gist of what you're trying to do. All ideas and aids that allow each of us to be in tune with ourselves are the best.

  11. No two people are the same and no two people can perform exactly the same actions exactly the same way. It's all about a personal application of a basic approach to the golf swing. I hope this doesn't begin a spate of dueling videos, but I appreciate this one.

  12. Moe swing is very practical and make sense if you understand the whole SOP of single plane swing.

  13. I especially like the point about adjusting the grip. I too noticed the club face slightly open when setting up for the impact position. That small adjustment makes a difference.

  14. Being ready to quit golf because of back pain related to hitting with my conventional swing (15 to 40 y.o then quit until 57 and then up to 65) I switched to Moe's method, professed to be "easier on the back". Unable to finish 18 without pain, needing pills and ice after, I can now play 36 in a day or practice before and/or after a round with no pain whatsoever. A Godsend and my handicap is still at 6 with (for a 69 y.o.) straight drives in the 235 – 250 yd distance. Master moves (Moe's or yours) notwithstanding, my sense of it is that knees work best when they are flexed, otherwise we would walk stiff-legged. Timing of the sequence of anyone's specific swing provides consistent results and that requires practice. Thanks for the video and your explanations. Very edifying.

  15. I am a person who has really struggled with golf, despite being a pretty good athlete in most sports. I swing left-handed but putt right handed. I use a single plane for driving, rotary swing for irons, and more like Jimmy ballard’s method for short irons/wedges. You have to find what maximizes your potential. Tough game. Never thought I’d ever legitimately break 100, but I managed to get into the low nineties. Still searching for the 80s.

  16. For me the biggest downsides were the pain it created in my back and the loss of distance. It's a completely unathletic and unnatural movement. Moe was great at it – no doubt. But, for me, it just didn't work. But I'm thankful it got me over to Kirk's stuff.

  17. Best thing to do is take Kirk's classes, helped me immensely! I tell all my friends call and set up on his site. Thank you Kirk! Doug Baltzer
