My name is Brian Fitzgerald – I’m an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Bayviews GC on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne and the Lang Lang GC in South Gippsland (both an hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot’s of Kangaroos.

FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don’t feel that old.

Why do you make videos for YouTube? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.

Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.

So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.

What do you film with? – I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I’m using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.

What do you edit with? – About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere – prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio

Do you make money off YouTube? – Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? – Here’s my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : https://ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor

Thanks for watching!

  1. Excellent job Brian in offering four different putting drills to improve one's putting! I have gone to lining up the line on the ball to the hole and it has definitely improved my putting stats. There are other suggestions of yours that I have implemented as well, which you already know about. Always enjoy your input Brian!

  2. Thanks Brian – those short putts give me grief at times so it will be good to put those tips into practice.

  3. Excellent Brian, autre détail important, c'est l'alignement des épaules, n'oublions pas que le putting est aussi un…"swing"!
Merci encore pour ces précieux conseils et bonne journée Brian.

  4. Just had a putting lesson and great improvement in putting, by standing taller and a aiming routine.

  5. Hi Brian,
Great advice and timely reminder how important it is to practice your putting fundamentals.
Especially when your consider it is a third of your score.
    Really enjoyed it Brian.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  6. Solid advice! I managed a round yesterday (still recovering a broken finger), and was quite happy to walk away with a 95 despite being 6 over handicap. Was amazed how much different it was not closing the middle digit on right hand fully, couldn't close the clubface. Took a couple of holes to realise and work with a fade (normal iron shape is a draw), but it actually felt really nice and taught me a new feel. I might check out your new cooking channel, you might be a doc to fix my golf, but you'd need to be a magician to teach me how to cook 😉

  7. Thanks, Brian. 24 putts on the front 9 this morning, until I finally realised that my alignment was off with my shortish putts. Huge improvement on the back 9.

  8. Love putting, a good day putting on the greens = a good round of golf. 2 or 3 single putts and the rest 2 putts. That for me is a great day at golf. 3 or 4 triple putts and I've had a rough day. Putt for dough, is as true as it gets because everything else is for show

  9. Hey Brian I played back 9 at Lang Lang today, scored 15 over 9 but I put your ''Longer backswing, shorter follow through'' into practise for longer putts and made 2 putts I wouldn't have made otherwise so I probably owe you a beer mate. Hope to see you on the course someday soon, will definitely come and say gday!

  10. Nice Brian,

My eyes lie to me as an older guy. When I settle over the ball about to putt, my eyes tell me I'm going to hit it straight in the hole where in fact I hit it left (left hanger). The only guaranteed way for me to ensure I hit the ball straight is exactly what you suggest is to use the lines on the ball to line it up to the hole otherwise my eyes will tell me otherwise, and I then make a late adjustment not trusting my intention. When I use the lines on the ball, then settle over the ball my eyes tell me I'm going to miss, but if I trust this line then more often than not it goes in. It's when the brain kicks in and say "NO you are going to miss" that late adjustment half way through the stroke will cost me dearly. However, when I am not hitting straight at the hole, say on an angled slope I am able to look at the intended line and be far more successful than that short straight one. It must be my eyes are not looking straight at the hole. If I was an optometrist, I'd playing of scratch 🙂
    🙄

  11. Thanks Brian great video for me. With your coaching my putting has improved out of sight and as I missed a couple of short putts last Saturday I will give the suggested straighteners ago 🙂

  12. 1. like to string drill, helps focus, and can also use string drill along break line so can see if square to break.
    2. Do different putter configurations, ie plumber neck, blade, mallet type effect the aim ability.
