Keep an eye on the Canadiens… but maybe not yet

What type of offseason has Montreal had? Sneaky Joe believes the Habs have a slow build, that is a couple years behind the Sabres, but could eventually catch up. When will 2022 #1 pick Juraj Slafkovsky make an impact? Can the Canadiens get good goaltending without Carey Price?

Plus, Joe believes the Penguins trading for Erik Karlsson is a huge deal for the rest of the teams in the Eastern Conference.

  1. Cozens had 68 points and Suzuki 66. The second highest point scorer on the habs was 38 due to injury. Cozens would not of had 66 points on the habs.

  2. First time I've seen your podcast and I gotta say you're pretty on point dude. I'm a Habs fan ( born there and raised) and yes I agree there is much improvement to make but Kent is a sneaky bugger and with our prospect cupboard full as eff just wait… it's coming soon

  3. When the current Sabres reach their peak in a couple of years time, I think that Montreal will be a bigger threat than Detroit and Ottawa. Kent Hughes is leading a rebuild in the right manner looking to the longer term and then filling in pieces in the short term. Detroit and Ottawa both seem to be rushing their rebuilds be signing UFA players or trading for players on larger contracts without having the deptth to support them.

I would be excited with the young players on their roster and their prospects if I were a Habs fan. Not a playoff contender this season, but they could be in the conversation as soon as autumn 2024.

Not a fan of Karlsson at that cap hit. Whilst he makes Pittsburgh better offensively, he is a big liability defensively. He is almost a winger playing on the blue line.

  4. Great podcast on Mtl. I agree with it all. I'm still wondering if the Sabres have done enough to move up in the standings. I'm concerned.

  5. I think the habs might be putting Dach as their 2nd line center, they've said they project him as a center long term.
Hoping Slaf breaks into the top 6 and gets a fair amount of minutes, or plays top mins in laval so he can actually develop.

  6. I can't agree that the Habs will finish last again this year in the Atlantic division even tho their roster doesn't show a great team. They we're above .500 in their first 20 game last season before all the team start getting injured. There was many game this year that I felt that the team was playing playoff hockey. St-Louis doesn't give a F about tanking and there's one thing stats/roster doesn't count or show, it's how proud a young hockey player feel to play for a team like the Habs and a coach like Martin St-louis. St-Louis have the aura of Jesus to a christian. Definetly the Sabres/Sens looks better but both of these team doesn't have those two thing that Montreal have. The Habs will finish above the Bruins and the Red Wings.

  7. Disagree that it will take at least another 2 to 3 years. You didn't even mention that they just drafted 5th in the last draft. I would put money on the fact has more higher prospects down the pipe than the Sabers, but thats just my opinion. New management in Ottawa and i still think they ard shaky as far as having a winnig mentality. I lived in Ottawa and watched them develop since their return to the NHL.

  8. Pittsburgh is not going over the hump with Karlsson. their offense was already pretty good last year. they need good defensive play and they didn't address that. Buffalo and Ottawa are both better teams as a habs fan.

  9. Any analysis of the Canadiens that doesn’t begin with the understanding that they iced an AHL team last season because of record setting injuries is bound to be wrong. They are in the real world MUCH better than they finished.

  10. You failed to note the injuries that plagued the habs. They will trade Petry now or at trade deadline. Their blue line will be a force to Devon with in a year. The towards are their weakness right now but we will see this year if they can stay healthy.

  11. petry will be traded …..depending on what they get ….they could easily be the winner in this trade …..hoffman had zero value…. opening spots for the kids

  12. as a habs fan, the most injured team the last 2 years wich you did not mentionend it may be faster than you think to get closer to sabres and any other in the division! price is out we know it since last year! i dont know about sabres so i understand! dont be surprised if we keep healthy that we bump sabres bums next season!!

  13. you cover the habs , you get my sub. i remember when montreal and buffalo had some real intense rivalries. really hoping in 2 or 3 years we can go at it again. with boston, pittsburgh, toronto and a few others being on the downswing by the time our teams are peaking, we could be challenging for some deep playoff runs. . . honorable mention to Detroit. have a great season.

  14. the reports here in montreal are saying Price is having trouble just climbing his stairs at home. he is not going to be playing anytime soon. maybe coaching….

  15. Totally disagree on your defense saying yikes. I think Montreal needs to move Petry as they have a lot of young depth on Defense.

You missed Dach at center. Newhook also plays center.

You didn’t mention Montreal set records last 2 years for injuries that’s a pretty big factor

But holy Fuck dude Price has been permanently on LTIR for a year have you been hibernating??

  16. You don't seem to know much of anything about Montreal… Don't worry you will know all about it when they start crushing your sabers, I mean its easy to get cocky as a sabers fan after sucking for almost 12 years… "Our PROSPECT POOL IS SO MUCH BETTER" the funny part is it took you 12 years of sucking and it's not even that much better

  17. WTF is he talking about ?? Montréal, a couple of years behind Buffalo!!! 😅😅😅 .
FYI : The blue line in Montréal ( not now ) will be the best defense in the NHL for many years starting next year. The only thing missing is our next Golden goalie.

  18. It must be REALY HARD to be a Sabres fan ! Sry, but. I don't know how you do it. Year, after year with no playoffs. It's been 2 years here in Montréal. AND I'M STARTING TO FREAK OUT !!!! Now, even summer sucks and takes forever to get to October. But, Buffalo are getting better and I really hope they make it this year and take Pittsburghs playoffs spot. 🎉🎉🎉 That would be awsome 😀 👌
FYI DUDE : Your Sabres still suck 😂😂😂😂😂
