Steelers training camp: Does Joey Porter Jr. still have time to prove he can start vs. Levi Wallace?

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette insider Brian Batko to discuss the latest from Steelers training camp. Among the topics: Will Joey Porter Jr.’s missed time cost him the chance to start? Is Levi Wallace proving he belongs in the conversation with Porter Jr. and Patrick Peterson? Are middle linebackers Elandon Roberts, Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb fixing the Steelers’ struggles at their position? And who among the group of Keeanu Benton, Breiden Fehoko and Armon Watts is positioned to take the starting nose tackle job? Our duo tackles those topics and more.

  1. JPJ has great character but I still can’t get over how any team would ever draft JPJ over Brian Branch, who could start for us at Safety and nickel right now, without question..

  2. I’m surprised Fehoko isn’t favored by the coaches at this point, per what Brian said. To me he seems to be a true nose. Montravius Adams does have a great get-off but he’s not a true nose, he doesn’t have the strength or size to take on double teams and stop the run off the middle. Benton could be there but should also see some reps at 3-tech.

  3. How can anyone say that JPJ is ahead of schedule when he's been hurt more often than not? I don't see urgency in getting him ready to start week one.
