It’s the time of year when we start to see the ground really firm up and make it tough to strike chips or pitches well. Here’s a little insight into how to use the shaping of the sole of your wedge to make these shots a little easier.

James thank you for great lessons
Very interesting advice, especially helpful for this time of year. Thanks.
Just what I needed to know as have been faced with this shot on hardpan lies this week. Thanks.
The ground hard and I'd putt from that lie, but I get where your coming from 🙂
Nice kicks!
Unreal you have so few subscribers – gold dust from a world leading short game coach. Watched every second of all your vids and 3 years ago one of your vids literally cured my short game ‘yips’ (mainly poor technique ingrained over time). I have been sending it to any player at my club struggling around the green (mostly scratch-ish golfers like me the wrong side of 40) and they finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Would love to come and have a proper clinic with you one day.
Great tips, well explained. Chapeau
I have never tried the heel shot! No doubt I'm looking for bare lies at the chipping green tomorrow. Love your content.
Astonishing skill…which I don’t yet have!
Hi James, great tip for tight lies. any drills for yippers? i'm having an awful time this season. Handicap up from scratch to 3
I prefer the open face and toe in method. Because you're using the toe there's less energy on the ball as well so it comes out nice and soft. Its amazing how much backswing you can take greenside with this shot and not hit the ball very far.
Thought I recognised that bit of hardpan 🙂 Amazing how dry the course is when you thing of all the rain we had a few months ago. Greens are good for the course at the moment. Nice video, thanks.
James, you’re an absolute legend for all the absolute gold you drop!! Not to be greedy, but can we get a grainy and/or soggy lie version of these videos?
Why would you use a 60 deg wedge for this shot? There are far easier ways of playing this shot.
Thanks James. Where can I get this camera and little tripod?
Legend
Just subbed and been watching after @coachlockey's video with you, need serious shortgame help and your content is excellent, thank you 🙂
Excellent content James appreciate all of your coaching videos!
