Rory McIlroy’s UNBELIEVABLE birdie at BMW Championship

In the opening round of the 2023 BMW Championship, Rory McIlroy’s tee shot at the par-4 17th hole nestles down in the rough. McIlroy then punches his second shot behind the green, avoiding trees and the greenside bunker along the way. He then chips in for an improbable birdie.

The PGA TOUR heads to Olympia Fields Country Club, just outside of Chicago, for this week’s BMW Championship and the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs. This week will determine the final 30 players eligible to compete for the TOUR Championship next week at East Lake in Atlanta. Lucas Glover will look to make it three wins in a row on the PGA TOUR after capturing both the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. His recent successes have pushed him from No. 49 to No. 4 in the FedExCup standings. Patrick Cantlay returns to defend his back-to-back BMW Championship wins after last week’s playoff defeat to Lucas Glover. This was one of seven top-four finishes this season as he looks to make it a three-peat at this event. Rory McIlroy played well for his T-3 finish in Memphis last week. He’s claimed top-10 finishes in all of his last seven starts and with three FedExCup Championships to his name, he knows what is required this time of year to outlast the best players in golf. Other players to look out for are Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood.

  1. incredible shot, but I can't help to notice the people recording and not even realize what they just missed.

  2. Great shot considering Rory doesn't get to try hit those kind of shots as often as the rest of us!

  3. Rory is obviously a great player, but luck played a BIG role here! The only time he was legitimately in play was on the tee, and usually a good result will not materialise from that type of play. I still think that he doesn’t win enough considering his genius ability and talent. It’s almost unbelievable that he hasn’t won a Major Championship in more than 9 years, and with the Major season over, it will be almost 10 years when he gets to Augusta National next April.
