Could Amateurs Make the Island on Hole 16?? | Iconic Disc Golf Moment Challenge

If you have watched professional sports of any kind, there comes a moment where you ask an important question. This question usually comes after the blunder or shortcoming of the person you’re watching, and you ask, “Could I do that if I were in the same situation?” Now certain sports we know this is tough, but disc golf’s grass roots still makes the gap between the pros and the amateurs seem smaller than it is. At the 2023 European Open, Anthony Barela struggled to hit the island green on Hole 16 ultimately costing him the event. So @FoundationDiscGolf and I decided to recreate this island as best we could, set ourselves the same distance from the basket…and see if we had what it takes to make the island. How did it go?? You’ll have to watch to find out!

  1. Doing good, Robbie. I'm considering signing up for patreon for the form review to help my distance. I feel like I'm using too much arm

  2. Check out the pdga competition manual 3.05B and the rule 809.03. if the caddy also has to follow the rules then they cannot throw a disc. Right🤷‍♂️. that would be a penalty stroke if they threw your disc back to you.

  3. Yo, if someone wants to run and get a disc to rethrow, I'm definitely not calling a time violation on 5 seconds. The hilarity is totally worth it.

  4. Recreate KJ spin fall Ace during the Skins match… LOL. Dont do it really. Tear then knees up.

  5. I can't even throw farther than 200ft. I've have no chance. Maybe a small chance at 230-250. But definitely not at 280ft.

  6. kudos to robbie for being able to do that outro while being gassed from that run lol

  7. If you have imaginary hay bales preventing entry don’t forget you could use the same premise to keep the disc from escaping. Several of Robbie’s looked like the bales had been there they’d have blocked his discs from skipping out.

  8. You missed another option that would have been better…(I think). AB and other players have more than one disc that would have worked in that spot. Throw the one you think most likely to work, it misses, send your caddy for it, and within 30 seconds throw your 'second best choice'. If you miss again, your caddy is already headed back with your other disc and can run the rest of the way. The only possible issue is that your caddy cannot be used to indicate the line, but if they aren't standing in one place for you to use as an aiming point, it should be allowed. Interestng question for the rules committee and I may have to email the PDGA rules committee to see what they would rule in this situation. Or post the question in a rules forum I'm part of.

  9. Best post tournament coverage I’ve seen. Answering all the questions we asked ourselves!

  10. Deer on Hunters 4th make…. left of the basket, poked out of the trees

  11. If you are going to burn a stroke by retrieving the disc then just pitch up to the edge of OB and throw a shorter shot .

  12. The real question i have is, does Trevor or Hunter drive the Carbon Edition CX-5? I see it always in the parking lot of their vids.

  13. Wouldn’t the excessive time violation also just be one stroke? So the MTA method would be unnecessary. You could just take your time and get your discs and hope your card mates don’t call you on it, but if they do it is only a stroke and you have all your discs back and you are not winded.

Alternatively, wouldn’t the smart play be to lay up to the edge of OB? That also uses up a stroke but at least now you have an easier approach.

  14. Something I don't get though, if it takes more than 30 seconds to get it, won't you just get a penalty stroke? Or do you take one for every 30 seconds? And even at that, wouldn't you first get a warning?

  15. A player has taken excessive time if they are present and have not thrown within 30 seconds:

After the previous player has thrown; and,

After they have had a reasonable amount of time to arrive at and determine the lie; and,

After they are next in the throwing order; and,

During which the playing area is remains clear.

A player who takes excessive time receives a warning for the first violation. A player who takes excessive time after having been warned for it during the round receives one penalty throw. See 811.F.5 for a player who is absent when it is their turn to throw.

the reasonable amount of time to arrive at and determine the lie after you throw and run for a disc gives you extra time to reassess your lie

  16. If you’re just gonna throw a disc to blow a shot to give you extra time… you should have just laid up. XDDD

  17. Trevor saying he can't throw it far enough but continuing to throw hyzers is perplexing. Flex that thing homie.
