My take is that its POSSIBLE Pop is overrated depending on how much credit you think Duncan deserves for those rings and runs. Its possible without Duncan they dont get those rings then Tony and Manu dont become hall of famers. However I personally think that 2014 championship debunks all of that since Duncan was out of his prime and they played arguably the most beautiful team oriented basketball I've ever seen which i asume was drawn up by Pop. I feel like crediting Dunc but not Pop or Pop but not Dunc is just as tunnel visioned as something like MJ vs Pip its a team sport after all and I include coaches as part of the team

I think Pop is a bit overrated, Duncan was a walking 20/10 from the moment he joined the league, Manu and Tony where both super talented the reason why I give pop credit for them is for identifying their talent despite neither of them being in the mainstream American talent pool, which was the only real source for draft talent then. Pop had an eye for talent more then anything, theres not a lot of coaches who got to coach 2 of the top 5-10 big men of all time, back to back and then as the first top 10 big man retired got a HoF backcourt to go with a top 5 big man, then got another generational talent that wound up being the youngest Finals MVP of all time. Pop. So I kinda get what Rashad was trying to say, but its not that Pop was a bad coach, its more so Pop was such a great GM it probably inflates his coaching resume and accomplishments just because ofcourse he won a lot of titles with the embarssement of riches of basketball talent he had over his career.
