Back with Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Emmit Smith, these guys built running backs and since some were champions all teams thought about were running backs. It was tough for receivers to get paid but now there being used more. Over time people adapt and change but in the soon future I think that this will change.
The rise of the Tight Ends utility changed the game. TE are as important as running backs. The money historically allocated to a running back is now split with the TE.
RB is a devalued position. Saquon Barkley bounced back from injury and is the reason the Giants made it to the PO but yet can't get a long term contract. I wouldn't let my son play the RB position. They take a beating and no respect.
There's nobody more running backs like Christian McCaffrey coming out of college now guys that can play all around catch out of the backfield just as good as they can run if you're not doing that you're not getting big money anymore
The market will start to adjust rookie running backs, will start to get more money, regardless coming out of college because they’re probably only going to get one decent contract.
Nobody’s going to pay a running back good money when he’s 28 years old, so I’d watch in the near future for rookies to start getting bigger deals at running back earlier in their career
Nfl run the league like a sweatshop. The fact the QBs have their own CBa is terrible. Nba players get 51% of total income. And owners get 49. From image rights. The owners are forced to spend.
The NFl makes more money then the NBA. And the players owner split is 2/1 And the nfl got way more players. They neeed to cut the tough guy act and uses their brains and lock out.
If the XFL was smart they would pay running backs more then the nfl.
A center played every offensive snap, unlike all running backs and the highest paid center is Jason Kelce at $14m who just came off of a super bowl, is going to be a first ballot HOFer, and has won a Super Bowl in 2017. No one sticking up for centers who have to be fat and block 300 lb dudes every snap that are lining up over them. It's a passing league now boys and most teams are running back by committee. Get over yourselves.
Belchick is really the guy, the rumor floating was that he would never give a rb a second contract they just go and get whoever in the draft or through FA, then just do committee if they have to, saves on cap space and gets similar production , 2 guys that run for 550 each on 4.5 to 5ypc is going to work for a lot of teams
No, rbs are not less important they just want to pay them less. Players must kill the record deal for running backs. The league is just running them into the ground before they have to pay them that doesn’t mean they are less important. If everyone knew you were throwing the ball QB an WRS injuries would go way up.
Yeah it wasn’t Mcvay it the read option it makes anybody look like a good RB but now that you can’t make forward handoffs you see the value of a RB with real gap vision
McVay just said what other teams already feel. What killed the RB market is usage…if you're a normal RB you wont get over 12 mil. Only two making over 15 are McCaffrey and Kamara two backs that are also receivers.
