  1. The thing with Analytics in general is that their still in its infancy stage for all sports and cant be used to judge performance/contacts on their own. Even in baseball they're coming out with new types of stats every year that often replace ones that have been popular a few years prior.

This then leads people especially on social media to post that same charts for players to say how good/bad they are and go off nothing else. These people often don't actually understand the game when the watch it and cant tell who is good or bad by just watching the game, so they resort to memorizing the same charts and stats and just go off that to say who they think is good which is extremely flawed. Goes to show that every sport will always need a mix of the eye test and analytics and both are important and useful in their own way.

Also, specifically in Hockey, analytics are way harder to use and create because of the randomness compared to stop and start sports like baseball and football which have many isolated 1 vs 1 scenarios happen.

  2. Look what detroit did larkin 8yrs st.louis. thomas 8yrs 🤷‍♂️ 5yrs. Topps . owners fault paying them.too many yrs.

  3. 100% yes they gave him this extension before he even set foot on the ice despite already being on the downside during his career to date

  4. I'm a card dealer, that's what I do for a living, I specialize mostly in hockey – vintage hockey and rare inserts, parallels and serial numbered cards from the 90's and early 2000's – but I deal in all things hockey, the rare 90's stuff is just my "niche" – I mean it's extremely desirable and sells.. So yea, I'll be at the national tomorrow throughout the weekend looking for deals.. I love those quarter, dollar and 5 dollar boxes – there are a lot of good cards in those boxes and if you know what you're doing you can make a lot of money flipping them. I've found $300, $400 and $500 dollar cards in those $1 dollar and 5 dollar boxes – so yea, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow so I can find some deals and load up on some inventory..

  5. Dude, teams are holding contracts for players that aren't even playing – those are bad contracts.. At least Seth Jones is playing. Sure, he's overpaid but the Blackhawks are a better team with Seth Jones than without him and the same cant be said for some players in the league. Some players hinder their team – they're below "replacement level", yet they're getting paid to make their team "worse" on paper when they play or end up being a healthy scratch when they don't…

Of course a "bad contract" is extremely subjective – I mean a "bad contract" relative to what, or whom??…. And keep in mind – the salary cap is going up and will continue to go up over the duration of Seth Jones contract, so who knows what it will look like in 3-4 years from now when the Blackhawks are (hopefully) back to Cup contention?? I mean when it's all said and done Jones could look like a steal – it just looks bad now because of the flat cap and the Hawks are rebuilding…. So NO, I objectively believe Jones' contract is NOT even close to the "worst" contract in the league – not by far.. And as I pointed out – Seth Jones is relatively young, so he could play and essential role in the near future.

  6. Its a bad contract for the hawks based on his age, length and amount of contract. But if he has a great year and with the cap going up next year, he could be moved to a contending team like his hometown Dallaa Stars as a number 2 defenseman. Some salary may have to be retained but that is the best hope for his contract.

  7. C'mon my Hawk Brethren, Seth Jones is EASILY overpayed by $2.5 million 2 years too many. Hopefully, as our Team gets better, we can use him to help another team reach the Cap floor.

  8. The 90's saw a "hobby boom" so at the time everyone and their momma wanted to invest in cards because they were under some delusion that one day their investment would payoff their mortgage – however they never considered basic economic laws like supply and demand. Of course the card manufacturers responded to the increase in demand just by printing more cards – so now 90's cards are more than abundant, there is nothing particularly scarce or desirable about them – I mean in the hobby 90's cards are referred to as "junk wax". However NOT all 90's cards are "junk" there are plenty of rare and extremely desirable sets, inserts, parallels and serial numbered cards that sell for good money – but these are the sets/cards that weren't overproduced or were produced in limited quantities and/or are finite – those are the cards that hockey collectors desire.. For example: I have a 1998-99 Donruss Elite Jaromir Jagr "Prime Numbers" sitting right in front of me to use as an example – the card is serial numbered to ONLY /266 cards. That means there are only 266 of these cards in existence, now keep in mind that Donruss produced hundreds of thousands of boxes of this product in 1999, so what do you think the odds are of pulling a card that is limited to only /266 copies? right, about 1 in 10,000 packs? 20,000 packs? I mean the odds are astronomical.. Of course Jagr is one of the best players of all time and he's an extremely desirable player to collect, so there is a TON of demand for this card due to the player and the scarcity, hence lots of competition to buy one and that equals a pretty expensive card..

My point is that most 90's hockey cards aren't worth anything, however there are plenty that are worth A TON if you have the hobby knowledge and know what to look for..

  9. With the cap going up the Jones deal will explain itself within the reality of the game. Penalty Kill, +/- control over 82 games, and an ability to contribute on a relevant basis. False Seth Jones is not a poor deal the minutes he produces over 7 years will give it relevance his commitment to hockey and beyond will satisfy him. Be ready to fly like a Hawk at camp and the corner can be turned today not tomorrow. 🎨

  10. Bro Connor Bedard is gonna bring the salary cap up and Seth Jones at age 30 will be HOOPING with a cost controlled deal.

  11. Seth Jones absolutely has the worst contract in the NHL lol. It's not even close either. I don't care what analytics say, he's horrible in his own zone, and is atrocious in front of his own net. Sure, he's ok offensively, but that doesn't make up for bad he is definsivley. he's not even a star in that category either. I think sometimes we have to take our Hawks lenses off and look at things objectively. I'd easily rather have 30 other defensemen than him (without even looking at his contract). Honestly, I think Connor Murphy is More valuable. With his contract, lol ugh man, idk how you even quantify it. If they ever get a taker, I'd ship him out right away.
