Dropping Kvyat for Verstappen after just 4 races into the 2016 season was far more worse but fair for Kvyat then De Vries because he was probably told a few times to be really be cautious and not crash while he crashed like five times and costed Alpha Tauri more then they can and with the poor performance it was clear for Marko to change Nyck for Ricciardo.
We only saw what Nyck could do on the track but not what his attitude was behind the scenes, if they felt they could work with him then obviously they would have kept him but clearly they did not.
Red Bull works like that – both ways. Kvyat swapped with Verstappen was criticized but worked out quite nicely.
100 percent unfair on nyck he should have atleast a full season he's a rookie man
I think the reason they were so harsh with him compared to other rookies is the amount of experience he is coming into F1 with. He isn't a 22 year old kid fresh out of F2. He is a good driver, but he won't be around as long anyway due to his age and RB probably guessed that if he wasn't performing consistently better than a 23 year old that they should drop him.

There is definitely a difference in how the two teams choose to retain drivers that’s for sure. RB it’s on performance, Merc it’s loyalty.
