  1. I don't remember a bad word said about Jerry. But it seemed like everyone knew when an elite fighter got him it was a given he was the customary win for the next bout. He was more than a sparring partner but never a contender. And I wouldn't doubt he was quite thankful for the opportunities… and the paydays.

  2. Jerry had two things…Heart & Toughness…That said, he was a little shy on power and finesse….Hats off to him, he was a "fighter."

  3. In the days when the top heavyweights used to fight each other. Gone now, too much money in the sport so meaningful fights are rare.

  4. I remember watching this fight when it happened. I mainly remember Joe taking that low blow

  5. 70’s heavyweights we’re like none other. Jerry Quarry and George Chuvalo were too damn tough for their own good! Those guys stood in front of you, and didn’t go anywhere! They had no quit in them!

  6. 3:10 is unbelievable. Jerry is literally out for a split second and going down, but then he recovers… how did he manage to do that??????

  7. As soon as they announced this fight, I knew Frazier was going to win.
Sadly, even though I live in Vegas, I was too young to get a bet down.

  8. It’s funny reading these comments. This dude lost twice to the greatest and others. Stop with the imaginary crown.

  9. Joe died i think in his early 50s from dementia and his two brothers all the affects of they're boxing careers

  10. JQ did better against Frazier than he did with Ali up until he got hurt, Jerry had to have earned these fights but got overmatched when he reached the title fights.

  11. Quarry came around at a time when the heavyweight division was just loaded with talented fighters. He cut easily, had no footwork, defense, speed, and just an average punch, but what he did have was the ability to absorb punishment and tons of heart. There was no such thing as quitting in Quarry's vocabulary. Unfortunately, his style which amounted to nothing more than courage and an iron chin wound up killing him at the tender age of 53.

  12. Quarry fought them all. Some multiple times. Just wasn’t good enough to be champ. He’d have a title today, no doubt. Too many titles, title holders ducking each other, quantity doesn’t mean the quality is better.
Old interviews with retired heavyweights, Ali, Norton, Frazier, Foreman…none of those gentlemen had anything bad to say about Jerry Quarry.

  13. Jerry Quarry is one of the saddest stories in the annals of boxing. He took more beatings in the ring than he should have. The boxing commissions never should have permitted him to continue boxing after it was evident that Quarry was suffering from side effects of these beatings. The people who kept training him and managing him were just as much to blame. Quarry became a vegetable and died a young man because of this. A tragic ending.

  14. Look in the dictionary for definition of Gate Keeper you'll see Jerry Quarry's Face.

  15. Quarry was a very good fighter. Unfortunately for him, he was a very good heavyweight in the era of the greatest heavyweights. Going up against Ali and Frazier (both of them twice!) is something an ordinary fighter couldn't do.

  16. Wait!! Fraizer was in Pink? What's that commentator smoking? Or is it me that's high?

  17. @josephshields2922: I don't dispute Frazier's knockout record because I didn't care for him, but because it is wrong. Though I must say that I didn't like him especially when Durham and he decided not to enter the WBA elimination tournament, deciding instead to fight the Blimp for what I regarded as a worthless crown.
Have you ever wondered why he didn't take on the likes of Terrell, Spencer and Martin on his way up, preferring instead to engage with no hopers? OR SONNY?

  18. I don’t see the big deal about Joe Frazier, i never did. He had one great fight against Ali, Forman disposed of him in 30 seconds.

  19. Holy shI*T!! That meat-cleaver hook Frazier threw at the 3:10 mark would have knocked out an elephant!! (Quarry was one tough dude!!)

  20. Jerry always was a man who never quit…I recall seeing a newspaper photo of Quarry's son looking so sad when he lost

  21. I've been watching more than a few of Quarry's fights lately, and i never seen him on the canvas. All his fights he was still on his feet. Did anyone ever drop him?

  22. Quarry was a human punching bag
His best weapon in the ring was his nose to fraziers left hook

  23. Jerry was tough as nails. He sparred without headgear. He had a chin of iron. What he also had was a face full of scar tissue that stopped many of his fights for him. Jerry Quarry- the last gladiator.
