Vincent Kompany’s 27 Questions with Gary Neville

This week, I’m with Burnley manager and Premier League legend Vincent Kompany at the club’s Barnfield Training Centre as he takes on Quickfire Questions on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet.

During his playing days at Anderlecht, Vincent donned the number 27 shirt, so it felt like a fitting tribute to ask him 27 questions as we walk around his new stomping ground in the heart of Burnley.

We discuss his time at Manchester City and Belgium, facing a young Kylian Mbappé against Monaco, and we also delve into the true origin of where French fries come from!

The full interview will be released next week, so make sure to subscribe now and turn on notifications if you like!

  1. When we 1st announced VK as our manager, even us Clarets weren't over confident………but the 1st time we heard him speak about his plan, what he wanted and his obvious passion and desire, we were swooned.

Then after the best ever season I've witnessed in my 25 years as a claret, as long as he doesn't shit on us, his name will go down as a claret legend.

If he leaves this season, or in the next few to big club I don't think anyone could blame him. If he left for a club of a similar stature, then it would just be reminiscent of Owen Coyle to Bolton.

  2. I loved this one and the corresponding interview. What an incredibly interesting and intelligent guy. Listening to this made me think he's going to go far as a manager.

  3. Just a very intelligent, down to earth fella. Regardless of who you support, you just cannot dislike Vincent Kompany.

  4. Gary Neville saying Booba can’t be that big as he hasn’t heard of him. It’s because no-one listens to foreign music in insulate Little Britian

  5. I said it every time, but I love these interviews. Everyone seems lovely and it's just great to see you all getting on so well.

  6. Never mind football tactics, Pep Guardiola has now also entered the business of producing talented coaches. The man is a football scientist.

  7. I am sure Kompany will be a very special coach as much as he was a player. Wish him a great run now that Burnley are back in the premier league!

  8. Thing i love about Kompany is that the more you hear him speak, the more you can hear his accent turning a bit manc-y 😂 What a top bloke too; hope he does really well with Burnley this season

  9. I think Anelka was an odd choice of comparison for Mbappe. As someone who watched Anelka a lot for Arsenal, and to a lesser extent for my own, Real Madrid – the reason why players sometimes couldn't get near him was definitely more based on his size and strength than it was on speed, so in that sense, he was definitely more similar to Haaland than Mbappe.

And not to take anything away from Mbappe's ability as a player, but for several years now, I've seen him come up short whenever he's marked by players who can match his speed, and so I think it's a bit of a stretch describe him as someone you can't get near, as if he's a more sustainable version of Anelka in his very best form. I suppose there are fewer players who can match Mbappe's speed than there were players who could match Anelka's strength and size, perhaps.

  10. He dribbled around the Hazard question like a pro.

Didn't want to say Hazard is just too lazy to work hard and take the 100% care of himself it takes.
