  1. Since there are around zero local courses where 500’ would even be useful, I have no such aspirations. But should I ever reach 350’ consistently (which would be VERY useful at the local courses), I would be quite pleased.

  2. Can Mikey comfortably curl the disc back more, i.e., under his forearm, for even more spin speed?
While my arm speed was increasing, that was my cheat to throwing destroyers and 11 to 14.5 speed discs.

  3. Wait so is tight grip the winner or no? The explanation at the end was confusing. Was it a front loaded mash or whole hand mash?

  4. Josh, I think I have a good guess of what happened, when Mikey started gripping it as hard as he could, it translated to less surface area contact area on the disc at release. (I imagine that's probably what you mean by front loading the disc). So Mikey essentially decreased the amount of area of contact on the disc which increased the pressure at release which then translates to more spins or torsional force. So previously to him making this improvement, I feel like it's a good guess that Mikey must have been applying pressure somewhere else besides his thumb and index finger at release, which actually would decrease the pressure and thus the torsional force

Alternatively, by Mikey, thinking about squeezing the disc as hard as he can, it could be freeing him up from putting his body into fight or flight, when I was working at a ball golf lab a couple years ago and clients wanted more distance we would have them swing close to Max power, the sensors at the lab could somehow detect when they would go into flight or flight during a swing, so after say three or four weeks of trying to swing at 122 mph, the client would very rarely go into fight or flight anymore, it's probably why when drew was asked, how did you learn to throw it so far? And he replied " I just tried to rip putters as hard as I could for years" or something along those lines, I don't know what the metric will indicate the best likeliness for more distance but I can tell you that for ball golf all of the long distance drive champions just go after club head speed day in and day out

  5. I’m wanna try this but I’m not sure my wrist is disciplined enough. I know when I used to grip really tight I would always turn the disc over almost immediately or just go into a straight grip lock.

I’ve only been play 10 months. The technique and discipline are what separate the good players and the great players.

  6. So the goal is to have a bunch of front loaded pressure right? So the disc pivots and snaps more before flying out of your hand?

  7. A few TechDisc questions….

    1. How feasible is removal of the device from the disc? The website says they're permanently attached.
    2. If the device is removed and attached to another disc with sufficient adhesive, how much would that impact the readings?

I am looking into the options I'm seeing out there – and I'm leaning away from TechDisc because I would like to baseline my throws with each of my molds, so that I can go back to my nets and work on establishing specific releases for what I throw.

  8. Something worth noting is that in his 4 throws where he gripped hard, his release angle was nose down all 4 times, while his second 4 throws were all nose up. That translates to distance 100%

  9. I've have been getting better distance in my 3rd full year with tighter grips, but its not just the grip, as much as me setting the disc either flat or slight hyzer, so the nose doesnt get up at all. When i loosen things up, it seems like i have a tendency to end up with the nose angle up. Even slightly up, as we know, is clearly bad for distance. Having that grip set and firm grip is very key for my turnover shots as well. I do think it could be a bit tough on the elbow but i think if the overall form, footwork, follow thru, etc is good, its not quite as tough. Ive put on 30-50 ft on my average throw this year

  10. I have recently been focused one of your older videos (how to get the nose down on your backhand) but I think there is some overlap here. Specifically with focusing on supination to get the nose down. For me, I think I’m mashing as hard as I can AND focusing on that bit of supination at the end. When I get it right, there is without a doubt added distance, but if I get it wrong it feels like a nose up early release. I wonder if my forearm/wrist is just giving up after putting so much pressure on the disc for so long. I’ll have to tinker to find out

  11. Cool series but when discussing grip could you show us what front and back of his hand means by showing us?

  12. I wanna go there to practice and learn.. I’m from Sweden tho so that won’t happen. I would like to se what speed, spin and angle I have when throwing and how to improve my game. I throw 80 m that is 262 ft my goal is to go pass 100 m that’s 328 ft. I’m a bit limited because my shoulder have snapped multiple times I don’t know if I’m stopping (not doing the full rotation) or I’m just wanna drive it long so I use only my arm and stretches out wrong and therefore round my body and it snaps there. I haven’t got it on film when it happens.

  13. 11:18 – Tight grip. Loose body. 🙌🙌 The hand must match the power your body is generating throughout the sequence. People with high levels of body connection have easier times managing this. Sensory drills and strength drills are often overlooked. Awesome channel guys. Keep it up 👍

  14. This was extremely interesting because were really starting to see analytics taking over other sports especially for pitchers in baseball. But we just dont seem to be quite there yet in disc golf but this was neat to see how stuff like this can and does effect our sport as well.

  15. This video got me to subscribe. Love the technical analysis you guys are doing. I grew up digging deep into ball golf swing mechanics and ive been waiting for someone to start digging into disc mechanics. Exciting stuff.

  16. I started focusing all my grip in my pointer finger, or the first two, or just the middle. Still trying to decide whats best for me. And im way more consistent now at getting my max distance. I tried all oose. I tried all tight… but for me it seems to be in the first two fingers. I heard my first snap today. Ad began beating my personal best by 10 ft consistently. 🤷‍♂️ im a pretty new player.

  17. I think I've alway done a hybrid of loose and mashed, I naturally have a loose grip while reaching back and right as I start to pull forward but as soon as the disc starts accelerating quickly my grip tightens a lot

  18. “Max at 498 for over a year.” So he gained 20 ft. Woo. So most of us can go from 330 to 350 with this.

  19. Mikey throwing further than I do with 360. I'm 5'9 and I wonder why 😀

Edit: Without 360, I max at 400-420 ft consistently

Edit 2: With mashed grip aka death grip, bending the disc. I get 511 ft sometimes with 360 throw style and without 360 style, I max out at 400-420 ft with mashed grip and loose grip. 💀

  20. You always want as tight a grip as possible, it is also reflected in the spin. The secret is also being able to keep your arm loose. Can you just use the muscles in your hand to grip and not your whole arm?

  21. One factor to consider, has got to be, the more you throw, naturally the farther it will go. You work a muscle and it will grow!

  22. Just when I think disc golf cannot get any dorkier, here we are……the absolute last thing everyone of you needs, is to be on the interneters more! This is knowledge and wisdom speaking, GTFO the interneters….for an extended period of time, go play the most wooded course you know, get so food/man cans/**(women cans) some food to bbq and try to get lucky, with whatever gender you desire! All 87 of them to choose from! 🫡

  23. Awesome video. Science is great. One observation; everybody makes this mistake, even on DGN, further and farther are as different as screwdriver and hammer. Just remember that anything literally comparing distance is “farther”. Anything that is a figuratively improving on something is “further”. So, the takeaway, in disc golf, you’ll use “farther” about 99% of the time. Cheers.
