A month and a half ago, Matt Jones voiced his concerns over the state of the Kentucky Basketball program as the staff scrambled to add to a roster that consisted of only five freshmen and two sophomores. Since then, West Virginia transfer Tre Mitchell joined the fold, super senior guard Antonio Reeves returned to school, and two more freshmen signed on, Joey Hart and Jordan Burks.
The Cats went 4-0 in the GLOBL Jam even without big men Aaron Bradshaw and Ugonna Onyenso who are both recovering from foot injuries. Time will tell but after a tiring few seasons, it feels like things are finally looking up
This morning, Jones shared what he’s hearing were the catalysts for the change. Obviously, adding Mitchell — who only left West Virginia because of Bob Huggins’ DUI and subsequent exit — and Reeves was big. But equally important is the addition of John Welch, a player-development specialist who is also in charge of Calipari’s offensive strategy. His impact was on display in Toronto.

Kyle Tucker was hinting that Brian Cashman is one of Cal's LaFamilia donors/buddies. That's the kind of dudes he's trying to entice to open the pocketbooks.
And he's just an unpaid Grad Assistant, but have Ulis on that bench and in the practice facility is a 1000% better than anything Jay Lucas can bring to a staff staring at his shoelaces the entire game.
Matt wasn't wrong at the time he was on point, Cal got Mitchell from WV unexpectedly which is great! Some of these people think Cal poops ice cream and can do no wrong lol and now that we won the tourney in Canada we're suddenly national title contenders 😂 calm down people it's July

Seriously 7 weeks ago I was wondering if UK would even flirt with 18-20 wins. We had 7 guys with nearly zero college experience. Getting Reeves back was huge along with getting Mitchell.
So yeah 7 weeks ago i didn’t have much faith especially after not getting Hunter and on top of that we get an injury and you never know if a player will ever even see the court the way past injuries have turned out! Also the new coach will help immensely! I would have given them little chance of winning any tournament games and not much more even making the big show! Now the ceiling is high!
Well this is July so we’ll see.
One thing that has always irritated me is seeing Cal recruit all these players and by late December or early January he’s picked six or seven and that’s who plays.
We all know the history of guys leaving and becoming first team All Americans or just solid players. I want to see Kentucky playing nine or ten guys again and this looks like a team that can do it.
I liked the tempo I saw in Canada on both sides of the ball, but I wonder what it’s going to look like when they put a big guy in there?!

This is the most talented team in several years. Maybe Cals best freshman class. Can't even compare last few yrs teams & held hostage by transfers that weren't that good all struggling to make it in NBA. Talent level way better now unselfish and there's leadership & accountability not just throwing hands up blaming others like last few years.
Their not playing a different style of basketball, it's the fact they have players that know how to play basketball. They have guys that aren't afraid to shoot the ball, so the shot chart is gonna look different, but last season the personell and some of their play style and abilities affected the style as well..when you have players that can shoot they will shoot. He has guys now that can, so yeah of course he is gonna let them shoot. Lol
The team in 2021-2022 spaced the floor well. They won’t shoot 27 3s a game. That happened with the shot clock being 6 seconds shorter per possession and reset to 16 after offensive rebounds. You can’t say anything has changed until the games count. Matt’s complaints about NIL were already being addressed before he made it v and due to his falling out with Cal he is on the outside looking in. Matt has lost the ears of the more important people inside the program, and it’s clear with how much he is wrong about.
Jai Lucas was told to leave. Matt quit trying to take shots at Cal. It’s so transparent.
Shocker, Ryan agrees with Matt. I love Ryan, he’s my favorite on the show, but he will agree with anything that Matt says. Having “sources” when it’s clear that the coach and his staff don’t like the guy, you can say anything you want and attribute it to an anonymous source. Matt just can’t say he was wrong. I find it hard to believe the whole program was overhauled and everything changed in 7 weeks.
