My Dad was an old pro, and he always told me. A proper flushed iron is picked clean. I never understood it. But he would always tell me on the range to pick it clean. I honestly think it is this old piece of golf wisdom that has become lost. Back when he was playing around +4 and I was a kid, he rarely took a divot outside 150 yds. Should probably work on that thinking on the range.
