  1. Chris is right about the Cubs only wanting to pack Wrigley and their rival Cardinals do the same thing.

  2. As a Red Sox fan no I’m not pleased. The season is going as well as could have been expected but I don’t love those expectations. Trade turner and Duvall for pitching.

  3. Astros top brass should have told Framber to pitch if he wanted to, and then he should have gone but declined to pitch.

  4. The Orioles have been bad for a while, it was only a matter of time with all the high draft picks that they would be at the top!

  5. I get Plouffe's bias. He's a player. He wants players to get the most money possible. But to completely take the business aspect out of making pay decisions cannot be overlooked. Of the top 5 payrolls, the highest division ranked team is the Dodgers. Mets, Yanks, Padres, Phillies are all above $220 mil. Mets are North of $340M and are 7 games under .500. Winning generates money; but money doesn't always generate winning.

And let's say they extend Stroman and Belli to the max. What does that get them? 6 games under .500 and 8 games out. And not being able to add a piece that could take them over the edge to be a championship team.

  6. The bit you’re talking about with the Cubs making money without winning has been the Rockies’ fans’ bane for years

  7. Chris hit the nail on the head. The Rickettses have too many other irons in the fire: politics (both parties), real estate, sports betting, broadcasting, hospitality…the list goes on. Their resources are being disseminated in too many directions, and it often seems as though their baseball team is third or fourth on the list of priorities. Granted, they don't have Steve Cohen-level wealth, but their collective family net worth is in the single-digit billions. There is no reason why they can't pay the luxury tax.

  8. Plouffe’s comments on how Sox fans are feeling is bizarre. Pretty much everyone projected the Red Sox to finish at or under .500

  9. In regards to the Cubs extensions- They did extend Rizzo, they just didn't extend him a second time. Frankly was any of the core group worth extensions? Baez is one of the worst regular MLB players last couple of years. Bryant has been hurt for 2 years, and looks like he's never gonna see 150 games a year. Shwarbs had a couple of decent years with the bat, he's not good this year. Rockies run the franchise the same way as the cubs- don't care about winning at all- top 10 in attendance still.

  10. As a lifelong Cub fan, keep ‘em both. No question we’d be the worst team in the NL without Bellinger and Stroman.

  11. I love this show, you guys. Thanks for putting it on for us all to enjoy, and congrats to Mr. Plouffe on the wish coming true with the point to the booth.

  12. Two things:
    1) Seriously, they gotta fire that announcer because I bet Yankee fans are motherfuckering that guy because he jinxed it.
    2) I've watched baseball since I was six (27 years) and this is the first time I've ever seen the Yankees in last place. They need to retool and make trades if they want to stay competitive and make the playoffs this year. If not, I see them missing the playoffs for the first time in my life.

  13. Chris is right about the Cubs FO simply wanting to line their pockets. They know it's the loveable lovers, and fans will buy tickets whether the team wins or not. As a fan I'm expecting us to go back to the basement for years to come.

  14. Some horrendous takes on Chicago/Swanson from Rosey. Jesus man. Swanson 2.9 WAR. Other 3, 1.8 or lower. They wouldn’t take Correa straight up. Take away his 2017 season and the rest looks pretty average. He has been great in playoffs, no doubt.

  15. Couple points: Framber pitched in All Star game last year. He will probably make another 4 or 5 teams. Also, on Yanks, it seems pretty clear they thought they could stand pat and compete. I do not think they accounted for the growth of their rivals, despite the warning from the Orioles last year. If there is "panic" it is that their assessment of their competition was way off.

  16. Cubs didn’t extend the core because they all wanted too much money. Rizzo is the only one we really miss on field

  17. I am a Blue Jays fan I hate the yankees but I want judge on the field hes a good guy and one of the best in the game he should be there playing

  18. plouffe you're totally wrong most realistic Red Sox fans are mega happy about this season, most Red Sox fans thought we could make the playoffs but it was unlikely heading into the season. this year was and is a development year for bello, casas, Duran, and the system. we understood the rotation was going to be one of the worst in baseball. also the reason Red Sox fans attack the talkin baseball twitter account is cuz whoever runs it loves to disrespect us any chance they get, all love to y'all tho just wanna give you grasp into the fanbase a little bit

  19. Nope not tied. Last place by themselves and are CLEARLY the worst team in the EAST. CLEARLY inflated record and EXTREMELY lucky all season. Look at the team names on paper. That's a bad team. If it didn't say Yankees on the Jerseys u would all think the same. You're biased along with MLB propping for no good reason. The Yankees aren't baseball anymore and haven't been for for decades. Get over it they're bad it's true and they don't need bailing out. Nobody wants the Yankee to be good for no reason anymore. That's not baseball it never really was. They play by a different set of rules and it's gotta stop

  20. Red Sox fan here – I'm pleased with the season so far. Yeah, we need pitching but the overall record is a bit better than where I thought they would be. I expect them to finish the year a couple games over .500 and probably not contend for a wild card spot. They're in the hunt and will have help coming back in a couple weeks. If they can get a wild card spot, who knows what could happen

  21. 100% with Trev on the Cubs. WAR isn't perfect but shortstop defense is not something to take lightly and just toss a statue out there. Also how good has some of that core been since leaving anyway? Javy hasn't been good in Detroit, Bryant can't stay healthy and while homers are great you gotta hit better than the .190 Schwarber is doing. Rizzo does hurt a bit but the way I see it they made the right call on 3 out of 4.

  22. A little worried about this tough stretch for the snakes but hoping they’ll bounce back. Wouldn’t be shocked if the marlins have a struggle. I feel the Phillies are the best of all those NL teams

  23. Losing belli and stroman would hurt more than the 2016 core. We watched theyre downfall for years and knew they would get traded but belli and stroman getting shipped right after we see what they can do for us? That hurts

  24. Chris is so spot on about the cubs. I grew up on the north side as a Sox fan. My whole life (besides 2014-16) the wrigley experience isn’t at all about winning. The cubs and their awful ownership operate solely as a business and competitiveness only occurred when Theo was there
