Kenny Pickett’s Only Gets One Opportunity

The Pittsburgh Steelers will let Kenny Pickett rock. But one former player believes his leash is short. Plus, which wide receivers make the roster and more thoughts on Alex Highsmith’s big contract.

  1. When dumbasses expect Pickett to be a MVP candidate in year 2, whether they realize it or not, that creates a public perception that demands short leashes. And I think this hurts Kenny Pickett. Because a realistic progression is 3,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. This is good, but nowhere near MVP level. People need to quit expecting 5,000 yards and 37 touchdowns for a year 2 guy.

  2. It's not about how many teams you can come back against, it's about maximizing all the opportunities the defense is giving you. Getting out ahead of teams and finishing them off with a strong statement. You score, score, then score some more. When your starters are tired of scoring, send in the second platoon to score some more. This is a professional league, you can only have so much class before it comes back to bite you. With the rules these days, even three touchdown leads in the fourth quarter aren't that safe. So Kenny should be on a short leash because he honestly did NOT win the job over Mason last year, he was given a chance based on the "Booing" locals. That booing of Mason just because you wanted to see Kenny was some BS. I'm looking for the local fans to have more class than that this year.

  3. Pickett hsd to he able score points in the post-season. The Eagles needed 39, and they had a great run game, great D, and an above aversge QB. If he can't do that, he will not get a ring.

  4. Who hired Canada? Who kept him? Ole Matty will be the fall guy. He has said several times thst he is calling what he ALLOWED to play. The question i have for the Steelers Nation is why would a stud new. 50lb brain OC want to come to Pitt only to be micromanged? That t is like hiring a French Chef and then dictating the menu.

  5. The NFL is about the top QB’s putting up points and beating teams from start to finish. While at times they will be challenged they are the reason their team will be in every game just like when Ben played you knew the team had a chance.
Pickett has not shown anything to make me believe his arm and accuracy is good enough to hit the big plays if its pass and run or a 40 yards pass. I think there are about seven real gunslingers and eight second tier QB’s. I don’t think Pickett is in or will ever be in the top seven and doubt if he is second tier. Second tier QB’s have natural throwing ability and zero need a glove.
Been watching football a long time and over 2000 games and all the great QB’s. Very few used a glove. Kurt Warner was one and a few but they did also play without one. I can’t believe you get the feel of the ball with a glove. While that may not matter in college ball. The NFL is way different. The ball is different and the windows a smaller. Time will tell but what I saw was when he diid leave the pocket he was hard pressed to get muster on the ball and would toss it to the sideline. He was ok if he had a pocket and could run up and windup but off platform he is wanting. The sample size is small but I don’t see close to an NFL arm. Some say good enough but I factor in the glove and small hands. I feel Pickett will play out his first contract but if he does that talent on defense will be wasted. Low scoring and keeping teams in games gets you to 9 and 8 at best A good QB. Wins you another 4 to 6 games a year because you beat teams not beat stiffs at the last minute.

  6. Another thing I do not hear is situational execution.. Compare Bradshaw to O'Donnell- Statistically Neil O'Donnell blows Bradshaw away. (TD/Int.'s) Terry was 1/1 and had near 50% seasons w/more picks than TDs. Neil was near 2/1 and never had a season W/more picks versus TDs. . Those #2 SB picks ended what would have been a career eclipsing the Blonde Bomber. BOTTOM LINE -get it done early when its all on line. If ya don't opinions of ya sour.

  7. The problem has always been that mike Tomlin unwilling to hire a good quality good oc or dc Tomlin is not a great defensive minded headcoach game by game the steelers have given up at least 200 yards on the ground and been giving up multiple big plays in the air & on the ground. Any other 31 organizations would have bot put up with mike Tomlins stubbornness to not hire a good oc or dc. Also Matt Canada wouldn't be a oc on any other team besides the steelers. Idc that I'm going to get bashed for this but it's truth

  8. There gonna still keep it simple on offense.probably have alot of close games.kennys development may take some time.just hope he can stay healthy

  9. I know we need to stop mentioning Pickett with Mahommes. Kenny will be an efficient+ Passer, who will defeat you with his team. The Steelers are good enough to do that this coming season, and if not, it will come shortly. Kenny has to carve his nitch in the North division first. Sad thing, my only question is offensive coaching, as far as play mixture and personnel.

  10. I think KP08 will show enough improvement because he is obviously a hard worker. The time this guy spends on game planning and improving his knowledge of his game and working with his teammates timing is unmatched in Pittsburgh. The only question I see with him is will his body hold up? Great show guys!!!

  11. What's up with your lighting situation Derrick. It's been like this for weeks and it's very distracting. Is your computer set to go into sleep mode after 30 seconds? You can change that in settings. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just think if you fix your lighting issues, the show would be better.

  12. According to whom Kenny Pickett gets one opportunity? As far as I know, he has a 4 year rookie contract with a 5th year option that the Steelers signed him to. Fans don't get to make decisions for the team they root for or against.

  13. Comparing what we have by the law of average we have a lot more ballers in place that have proven to solidify their positions I see 12ws
