Manhattan’s cartoon based rally mascots end up falling short as the boys from Broadway succumb to the defending Champs from Long Island for the 3rd straight year.

This is the Hockey Night in Canada feed seen across Canada on CBC, a welcome alternative to the MSG feed which was the only feed available in NY that year as the home teams had exclusive TV rights for this series and in 1984.

    Ahhh, that Hockey Night in Canada theme song, love it. Loved my Isles snuffing the Smurfs. Funny story, we watched the game with a Ranger’s fan, and one of our friend’s kids had a stuffed Smurf doll. One of my friends was kicking the Smurf doll all over the place after the Isles beat the Rangers. My Dad was laughing so hard, it almost killed him.

    3rd time in a string of 4 straight yrs that islanders ended rangers playoffs. Rangers fans have never gotten over this trauma. Potvin socks chant is evidence of this fact. Even 1994 when edmonton rangers barely beat the mighty Canucks hasn't softened the sting of islanders 4 straight cups 😋

    Even in the midst of 4 yr dynasty, the nhl hierarchy loved to shit on islanders. They really would have preferred one of the premier franchise not the islanders.

    Mike McEwen, one of the biggest dressing room cancers in NHL history. He never knew a coach he couldn't feud with. He couldn't play for Fred Shero, Don Cherry, OR Al Arbour. No wonder he was always a healthy scratch in money games.

    Islanders just won 14th consecutive playoff series. More than any nhl team. Barely a mention. None of cbc experts think Islanders will win the cup again.
