‘I thought it was FAIR! You see Jonny do it ALL THE TIME!’ | Pat Cummins | 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s

Pat Cummins is adamant, there was nothing unfair about Johnny Bairstow’s stumping on the final day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.

The dismissal was a pivotal moment as England were chasing down a second-innings target of 371.

England captain Ben Stokes did his best with 155, but still the hosts fell 43 runs short.

Cummins though said Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey had seen Bairstow wander out of his crease on a few occasions and so took the opportunity to knock down the stumps.

After some deliberation, his England counterpart was sent to the pavilion as the umpires agreed, they had not called over, and Bairstow had taken the decision to wander on his own.

The dismissal drew the ire of the crowd, but Cummins believes it was within the rules of the game and fair play and says he has spoken to Stokes and there’s no animosity.

  1. I am a very patriotic Brit, but Bairstow was at fault, He has had to learn a valuable lesson,

  2. When did England appeal for such an incident, I must have missed it. I am staggered that Cummins can’t see the can of worms he and his team have opened. So Warner was out at Edgbaston and Smith out in 2019? Can’t you see the difference, you were desperate to win, understandable, but not at any costs. Without being caught on camera the old sandpaper ploy would still be going on. Can you imagine had the roles been reversed and this had happened at the MCG. You lot are still going on about Bodyline nearly 100 years later. Whingeing Poms, whingeing Aussies mate!!!

  3. Fucking England should ban . Icc should take action on England team for creating controversy. This is rule made by ICC so stop controversy on this right rule . Sprit of cricket what is that except India all teams destroy it .

  4. So the long room members had a few words to say to our Aussie boys. Who gives. Sort it out man to man. We don't want anything banned.
All's fair in love and war.

  5. Lol u say stokes was amazing lol are u kidding did u see the way u bowled to him disgusting u gave him the ball to hit bowling like that.
Seriously wtf. Then johnny bairstow needs to wake up and so do all u poms it's ok when johnny does such acts behind the stumps there's video footage popping up everywhere showing him doing the same thing he's just a grub.
Doesn't like it when it happens to him does he sucked in grow a brain ya pommy grubs.

  6. Last 3 Ashes series
Australia has won 6 out of 12 (3 matches to go) in England
England has won 0 out of 15 in Australia 😂😂 .
Australia really dominating them in their backyard.

  7. Poms bowling bouncers to a guy who cant put pressure on one leg
'Spirit of the game ' cmon england making yourselves look stupid on a global scale

  8. England are soar loosers. They have been playing bad. I find it very striking England are playing the victim. As far as i am concerned the empires have it out. They would have lost this game anyway.

  9. I'm not a fan of Cummings or the poms but australian team won fair and square just a shame England side always blame everyone but themselves

  10. Nothing to explain. It is part of the rules. They did not cheat. JB was an idiot and he should be blamed.

  11. I have definitely gained more respect for Cummins after all this. The way he calmly and efficiently addressed all these loaded and provacative questions shows maturity well beyond his years. One would generally not expect a cricket expert to be so competent in managing linguistic skills etc.

  12. If that's the way the aussies want to win then that's up to the bad sportsman they are . BY FAIR MEANS OR FOUL .

  13. What about when the ball hit Ben Stoke's bat while the New Zealand fields man throw the ball at the stumps and it went off to the boundary in the 50 overs world cup finals, why didn't England turn down the runs at that time In the spirit of the game 🤷🏽‍♂️

  14. making a mountain out of a molehill. I’m not into cricket, but even I notice Bairstow as one that seems to wonder and fanny about in and out of crease more than most 😎

  15. Yeah right. Greg and Trevor Chappell thought it was fair too. Also lucky for Greg in that match was the umpire decision that he wasn't out to a perfectly fair catch. Fortunately there was no sandpaper involved.

  16. The absoute arrogance and distaste in the reporters voice when he spoke about Mankads and Underarm bowling are the reason these Poms deserve much worse than what they have rn

  17. When the decision goes in your fair then thy queen we poms invoke the British laws of the game to survive.
Else just spit spirit of the game and hide behind it like nincompoops as the kangaroo can break the pom balls nice and fast through technique and talent..boooooos are just the filthy fuckin hypocrite Brit mouths lead by the 37 aged 6 sixes eater mr. Broady man.
Hail o Australia am an Indian standing behind you let's crush the poms and immoralise the legacy of cricket.

  18. You say about the rules of carey and it was correct but the problem is when you want win at all cost and Mark Taylor avoiding me wearing an England cap. I paid alot of hard earned money and for now tv. Also recovering after cancer which is life or death not the ashes. Do you know that I waited for any cricketer to take photos of me. Every English man took one and when I saw Mark Taylor and I asked to take a photo. He ignored me as I thought he was neutral but I was proven wrong because he ignored me and went to the media box. After chemotherapy and I am just recovering from cancer, I am very upset how the Australians want to win at all cost when it is only a game. Do you know I was one of last few supporters waiting after the match on the 5th day waiting. If you had cancer, you might think differently.

  19. Mmmm! The fuddy-duddy, over-privileged LORDS utterly destroyed the ‘spirit’ of the game when they persisted with bodyline against Australia. Look at the rules (20.1.1 and 20.1.2). Bairstow employed them when it suited England. Now England is pissed off because Australia employed them. It is an added bonus that Mister Stumping himself got a dose of Karma. Finally, do you know what the ‘spirit of the game’ is? Can anyone write it down so that it is fit for inclusion in the ‘Rules’? The Ashes series is about winning the Ashes. ‘Spirit of the game' is for the ladies club in the pavilion – the Lords. persist as long as the monarchy does. The Lords themselves wrote these two rules – (20.1.1. – The ball becomes dead when it is finally settled in the hands of the wicket-keeper or of the bowler. 20.1.2 – The ball shall be considered to be when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batters at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.)
