  1. I appreciate this and have to chuckle as I am working on this and without searching up comes a/your video on Youtube at the same time. I struggle with the feeling and dropping my arm with hip rotation especially with the club in my hand. I feel many times my shift forward is upper body forward rather than my hips forward and up and back. In addition to the drill you've demonstrated I work on throwing my golf balls into a net like I'm skipping a stone over the water or as a sidearm baseball pitcher. This gives me a very feel into dropping my arm and also a very easy and natural feeling of my lead hip and shoulder moving up and back. I continue to do that in combination with using my club. It has improved considerably but I remain consistently inconsistent!!! I am a senior, higher handicap golfer with some medical issues and have to work on what fits comfortably into my limitations.

  2. I went to practice this in the garden and something definitely clicked for me. It then became less thinking about actively lowering the arms but understanding the energy and momentum and movement that it created. After a few minutes I experienced for the first time what I think proper sequencing and balance should feel like. Thanks.

  3. This is exactly my experience also…I spent years focusing on shifting my weight to my left side to start the swing…the strange thing is when I focus on relaxing my arms and starting by dropping my hands and arms….my weight naturally shifts forward to my left side…and I add power and consistency. It feels like I'm starting with my hands…but my body reacts by shifting my weight first…it was a revelation for me…but so hard to describe. Thanks for the great content.

  4. I really like Jonathan’s cerebral lessons. Sometimes we focus so much on the mechanics of the swing, but forget that your mind has to believe in what you’re doing.

  5. I have massively improved my distance and ball striking by the thought that my lower body and torso is moving aggressively even from the start with the sole purpose of hitting high shots or aggressively throwing a heavy ball high and slightly right of target or a topspin forehand etc.I am fighting against gravity to do this! which is why you have to use the ground and your big muscles to do this
But my shoulders arms are being helped by /using gravity to produce speed, and are working up to release down, whether these thoughts are correct, who knows but i had 4 birdies friday! and hit my longest ever drives at 63!

  6. Weirdly i am getting the soft fast dropping release of my arms, only by thinking of aggressively moving my body from the start down up down UP.
I never think turn ,even tho i am, as i go inside and over But my glutes rub the wall like you teach but this action doesnt feel like a tun/rotation to me its just how to move to get a stable base to launch an upward throw.

  7. 100% agree. Except at the 5:30 mark. Elite youngsters are great with their hands. It's only when they reach puberty they get access to the lower body mostly the gluts and thighs. Thus they get stuck and under plane. If they get improper instruction go strong grip and develop the hold and explode pattern, handle drag the heck out of it. They can get by until they reach adult hood then they spend the rest of the time unlearning that move and move towards a tumble (Jack Nicklaus) move.

  8. I was warming up to play one day and I pulled a muscle in my trail (right) forearm. It was a small tear but hurt like hell when I made my normal swing. I decided to play anyway and just take it real easy with my arms. As long as I remembered to take it easy, I hit the ball as far and straighter than I ever have. I still fight my hit instinct but it was a real eye opener. Jonathan is right on as usual
