Sitting down with not just one but two of the most influential Running Backs in the league, today Pivot episode is story of how two men from completely different backgrounds landed on same team competing for same position and ended up becoming family.

Detroit’s Jamaal Williams and Green Bay’s Aaron Jones sit with Ryan, Channing, and Fred for a conversation covering their football journey, growing as men on and off the field and how loss of loved ones has shaped their story.

For four seasons, Aaron and Jamaal were constants in the Green Bay Packers backfield before Jamaal settled for a two-year deal with the NFC North rival Detroit Lions in 2021. Aaron and Jamaal describe their relationship as more of “brothers” than friends.

Fred and Channing curiously ask how they maintained the brotherhood despite competing for same role on same team and even now that they are on rival teams. Jamaal talks about how the decision to leave Green Bay to go to the Lions was hard but in the end had to do what was best for him and his family.

One commonality that Aaron and Jamaal bonded over and share was having influential male figures in their life. For Aaron, his father and for Jamaal, it was his uncle/trainer. In an emotional conversation, Aaron and Jamaal open up about the recent loss of these men in their lives and how it’s affected them and changed their course of life.

Fred, someone both backs have looked up to, leans into the upbringing Aaron had as a military child and the influence his parents had on him as he discusses this past NFL season being an emotional rollercoaster due to grieving and his first without his father.

Ryan commends Jamaal on his recent breakout season with the Lions and talks with the young back about his emotional interviews this past year and dealing with so much emotion while playing football.

With one of the major NFL offseason storylines tracking where QB Aaron Rodgers lands, Aaron Jones talks about his teammate’s leadership and drive pushed him to be a better player on the field and understand more the impact of winning and how to handle disappointment. Jones said he doesn’t want to see Rodgers leave but is prepared for what the team may be like with his absence.

Similarly, Jamal says he’s received that same motivation from coach Dan Campbell and shares stories of his dual approach to get the team fired up.

With a trio of running backs sitting together, you know the show can’t end without Fred asking who their top 5 RBs currently in the league are and why.

  1. Jamaal a real one 💯 anime is just another form of storytelling in which a lot of us relate to more than actual movies we see in Hollywood 🤷🏽. Tier 1 episode right here 💯

  9. This is what your show is all about. Showing us these sides of people "we" basic folks think just run a ball.

  10. Aaron Jones is a well spoken, respectful black man. It's sad that many of today's black women would label him as "corny".

  11. I'm a TPP watcher but missed this one. However, this past year I became fond of Jamaal Williams' pre- and post game interviews. And, when I heard he became a fellow "Who Dat", I had to watch this episode…and, he didn't disappoint. However, Aaron Jones and his family are a special group of folks! The love that they and Williams have for one another is the example we should show towards others…WOW! Again, thank you, Channing, Fred, Ryan and TPP team for another magnificent show⚜️🖤💛⚜️

  12. Yoooooooooo, Jamal is me! Staying inside, playing video games, not wanting to talk, he is a true introvert and I love it!
