Mark my word, this is the only drill I will ever tell you to bring your back foot behind your front foot.
I talk a lot about alignment, and the importance of your feet being parallel to your target line. But sometimes there might be a need to make a bigger back swing. And for those golfers whose flexibility and mobility might limit their potential to create a longer swing, dropping the back foot behind the front foot is an easy and effective way to hit straighter and longer shots.
Set up normal, insuring you are set up correctly to make a very small adjustment to your good set up. The small adjustment is moving your back foot behind your front foot a half inch at a time. Not 4 to 5 inches in one effort. A half-inch can make a bigger difference than you think.
What this drill can do for you is to force the toe of your club to win the race to the golf ball. Reducing and in some cases, eliminating your slice.
The right foot back drill is just that, it’s a drill. It’s not a permanent method to swinging the golf club. If you’re having issues trying to correct a slice, pulling that back foot back and making that toe outrace the heel to the ball isn’t a bad idea. So long as you’re not trying to kill it and hit it far.
