Great Drill To Hit Your Irons Pure

Hitting pure irons is something most average players only dream about. This tip shows you one of the main things you need to do at impact. If so, you will be copying the impact position of pros. You know who hits pure irons? Pros.

So as you work on this drill just realize you are putting yourself in the impact position of pros. At first, you will not be good at it and your irons may not be pure right away but like anything you need to do the work to get the results.

Most amateur players are just hitting with their arms so they never get into this impact position. So turn your arms off as you do this drill. It is about getting your body moving and this drill to hit pure irons will get you there. So be patient and try to do this drill as much as possible. The more you do it the more you will look like a pro at impact giving you the pure irons you’ve been looking for.

  1. I've played this game long enough and read enough magazines to realize, the difficulty of the game is just as everyone swings differently, people teach the game differently.

  2. I have macular degeneration in both eyes and my depth perception is way off so hitting from a t is easy compared to hitting correctly when a ball is on the ground, advice? PS, going to a driving ranges out of the question since I can never see where the ball goes after I hit it , but I love to play golf😮😅

  3. I find that when my trail heel is off the ground at impact, I always end up falling towards my toes after my follow through. Trying to roll my trail foot inwards seems to be the only thing that keeps me balanced at the end of my swing.

  4. Yep! As long as you’re letting your body swing the club the way Paul teaches, that back foot will come up every single time on its own!

Great stuff as always, Coach! 👍🏾

  5. I have been hitting wedges with a quarter of a swing to practice the hinge and release for a while. It’s a massive difference to hit a 6 iron with a full swing after the short shots. The hinge stays and I can hit the ball consistently solid. For me it’s better to start short and then increase the backswing. Practicing full swing is not doing me any good right now. Great video Paul as usual!!

  6. Paul could you please give me the tip you had where you started to turn your hands as you started your downswing.

  7. The swing you preach has taken so many swing thoughts out of my head and my shot is 100 time more consistent

  8. Your videos SUFFER from lack of a ball tracker. There is software to track the ball as you hit it and provide the viewer with a visual representation of WHERE you hit it. Why are you not using this?

  9. Fabulous drill. Very consistent with your “touch the knees” lesson on your body swing website.

  10. I think I am the other way round. I keep thinning my irons cos my heel lifts off too quick and I get ahead of the ball. I will try to keep my heel down a bit longer. You actually see McIlroy keeping his heel down surprisingly long with his irons.

  11. A great video that just makes sense…the weight will shift the heel will lift…got it! Makes perfect sense actually. I noticed you were using a tee for this drill. Is that something you recommend? What iron were you using in the video?

  12. Great video, Paul! Tiny suggestion: Change "that's when we're gonna lift it…" to "that's when it will get lifted". This much more emphasizes that you don't lift the heel consciously.

  13. I am getting closer to that single digit handicap! These videos are a lot of the reason why! I appreciate them.

  14. Terrific advice. Tried this today on the course today, and felt like I was hitting my irons better than I have in years. More loft, more distance, greater accuracy. A really simple swing fix.

  15. Using this has changed my game this season like none other. Great stuff! One of my playing partners that hits flat footed with no turn has some trouble with distance and hitting the ground behind his tee. I suggested the hip turn and shifting his weight to his front foot and his next tee shot was impressive. He said, "wow thanks!"

  16. By the time I get to impact I’m on my big toe. I’m going too soon as you mention around the 2:10 mark. Do you have any other drills to help this? This video is perfect timing for me I will incorporate this right now
