Waggle, Load, Go…The Swing Speed Secret NOBODY is Telling You

If you want to learn how to increase club head speed with driver, this video will get you on the right track.

In this golf lesson, Todd Kolb shows us how to hit the golf ball longer by creating some movement in the golf swing. Even if you are a senior golfer, you can still learn how to increase club head speed by getting your body moving!

How to increase swing speed with Movement – if you are an experienced golfer, you probably find yourself very still before you make your golf swing, which can be a major swing speed killer. Instead, think of a pitcher winding up or a quarterback throwing a pass. They aren’t still, but start loading and unloading to create speed.

Your golf swing is no different. So instead of standing statically over the ball before you swing, get your feet active, have a little golf club waggle, and you will free up your body to start your swing.

Increase golf swing speed in the backswing – a lot of golfers tend to start their swing deliberately slowly, then try to take off in the transition and downswing. This is a golf swing tempo killer, and is going to hurt your overall swing speed. Instead, use your golf backswing to build more swing speed and accelerate before you start the downswing.

Putting these two golf tips together will have you increase golf swing speed, which will help you learn how to hit the golf ball farther and get more distance with your driver!

  1. I have never seen a homerun hitter snatch the bat back. I bring the club back with a slight hesitation at the top of the backswing and then accelerate through the ball.

  2. Your system has truly been great for my game, for that I thank you. BUT, I cannot understand how speeding up my backswing is good. Your example of car acceleration is good for going one direction, but you would never go fast in reverse, then floor board it as you go forward. Speeding up the backswing will make it hard to 'set' at the top for me.

  3. Sorry Todd, I don’t understand. To me a quick backswing would add mass to the club possibly necessitating a tighter grip which would then rob you of speed. It would also make a full turn more difficult to implement, not to mention distorting the swing’s tempo. You conflated a stationary frozen setup with a slow backswing which is misleading. One can waggle and be athletic and float the club to the top, collecting of every bit of stored energy before starting the downswing and building momentum. Bobby Jones.

  4. I too am confused by speeding up the backswing. You reference pitching, you would never see a pitcher speedup the back motion of a pitch. It is more of a slow back motion then accelerating through the release.

  5. Yes the truth is to swing as fast as possible but you must keep your balance to coil up properly without any sway whatsoever. Once you sway even a little bit, direction and or power is severely compromised. Most guys don’t realize that they are swaying because they’re too busy trying to kill it. I suggest building a balanced swing that is connected, just a little bit at a time. This is when you actually feel a proper stretch which most golfers never actually feel because of the sway. Feet together drill is the best way to get started.
    Great video!
