This SIMPLE Drill Finally Fixed my Backswing

Today I get a golf lesson from the Hall of Fame Coach Chris Smeal and we talk about golf drills for the takeaway and the backswing to help stop getting the face too open. Also, we go over chipping and short game as well. He teaches me with simple gold drills and tips. With all this, we are looking to lower my scores on the course. Enjoy!

  1. As soon as you think you have it all worked out, you then take that next swing and come back to Earth!

  2. Can you provide a link for the two-color ball you used to maintain the "triangle" throughout your swing? Thanks!

  3. Please purchase a pair of golf shoes. I love the journey but it's painful watching you hit balls in Ultra Boosts.

  4. So Fortunate to have this coach. Again YOU control your setup 100%. Get it right and so much easier.

  5. 🔥Swing looking so good here!🔥 Way less effort and ball probably going about same distance or more. Looking forward to seeing on course action with this move.

  6. Hey Jerome on those bump chip shots you were putting too much energy in the shot. So loosen up on the grip especially at impact. Soft hands is key. Feel like your hitting through the ball, not jabbing at the ball.

  7. Your doing great but I myself don't like hitting off mats, it is just a different shot to hitting off ground but keep up the hard work it is paying off

  8. lol in the beginning of the video (with the ball) you are doing exactly what I talked about in a previous video where I explained how I fixed my iron strikes. Club parallel and the face at the 11 o’clock position

  9. Just to add one more thing. With the right takeaway, if you keep your arms connected to your chest as opposed to your arms crossing in front of your chest, when you rotate with your chest you will see distance gains across all your clubs. With my driver if I try and swing fast using most of my arms I get maybe 260-280 (inconsistently) but if I rotate and use my chest along with my arms I can go 300 yards without feeling like I’m swinging with everything I’ve got.

  10. I like the channel and your doing great so far! The one thing you NEED to do is learn to hold your finish. By knowing your going to hold the finish your preping your brain and body to be ballanced through the swing and you have an end point. Not to mention it just looks so sloppy and not athletic. Keep up the good work man. I have no doubt youll reach your goal!

  11. Whoa, short game lesson. Crazy! Cant’t wait for you to bring this to the course! Keep grinding!

  12. Chris is without doubt the best coach I've seen on YouTube. He explains everything in very simple terms. Brilliant!!!

  13. Jerome your legs are flopping around a bit. You might think about bracing them a bit at address to keep a more solid base. It’s not that they should be rigid but they shouldn’t be soft either. This is one thing I was doing which caused other problems in the swing. Ask your coach about bracing your lower half and see what he says.

Bracing just means you don’t allow your hip joints and your knee joints to be totally loose in their sockets. I brace outward, Hogan would have braced inward for example, and Nicholas etc

  14. Good to see your slowing down the swing by using the impact ball and as you can see your still hitting the same distance.

  15. Can anyone shed some light on why Jerome looks like he is adding so much extra motion when he's going through his practice swing? Is this a coaching method I'm not aware of? It looks like he is super loosey goosey and wobbling everywhere but it could be from his coach telling him to be more loose? I want to know because I go through my swing feels the exact opposite way. I am very controlled to make sure to stay on plane.

  16. Can't underestimate the importance of a good takeaway. If you have an early inside takeaway, the club head will likely loop inside to outside during the downswing transition causing out to in club path and slice. Having a good one-piece takeaway that keeps the club head from tucking inside too early will encourage a straight or draw shape.

  17. what his handicap now it ? Hes been practicing and has some of the best coaches. I assume that if you play 5 days a week in one year he should be single hanidcap.

  18. I must say I have never seen a coach anywhere whether it be on youtube or in my city where I have taken a couple of lessons use the ball technique between the arms. I actually love it because it so helps keep the arms together. I think I will be adding this to my training as well. Any idea what size or type it is @Jerome?
