This is why I never start with the club behind the ball

Today I test a golf tip from Alex Elliot golf and look at why he thinks you shouldn’t line up your club head directly behind the ball

  1. This adjustment in my setup on the tees is helping my consistency and confidence with my driver.

  2. I watched this video last week on your new "Testing the Tips" channel, and also watched Alex's version.
I've done three things the last 2 rounds:
    1) Set up with the ball slightly back in my stance (inside the lead foot a little)
    2) Set the driver back about 3-4" at address
    3) Make sure the ball is lined up with the driver toe
I have been much more consistent hitting the fairway, and now hitting 10+ yards further with a little draw.
Pushes and fades are greatly reduced. Great tip!! 👍👍👍

  3. Well my miss is out of the toe…however I line my ball in the middle, and my miss is left. But I'll give it a shot.

  4. I implemented this method that Alex posted and it has really helped me hit the middle of the fairway. Didn't change my distance any but it took me from the low 70% fairways hit to the mid 80% level.

  5. I've been fighting a slice all my golfing life. I'm 52 and15 handicap, and these last few years I've made a few changes that have helped me keep it under control, so now I'm either a controlled fade or straight.
I have never been able to draw the ball…..I know how to, but I physically can't do what's required with my swing……..and I've never had a problem with hooking.
I tried this method the other week…….I only get to play once every 2 weeks bye the way, and I have to practice while I play………after I saw John Rahm explain that he does this if he wants to hit a draw. Two things happened ( I tried it twice and then gave up). I drop kicked about 3 inches behind the ball both times, and then snap hooked left.

I guess I need to practice it more, but my only time on the range is about an hour before I tee off, and I need that time to go through my bag and work on tempo and clean ball striking, because I haven't played for at least 2 weeks.

  6. Andy, I have been doing this for a couple of years. I had an alignment aid on the head and used it to place it on the nearest point of the ball (ball further away by about a ball length). I now use the Paradym TD which doesn't have an alignment aid but the same position is used. When I have used a launch monitor regardless of brand, my driver efficiency is 1.48 or higher consistently.

  7. I do both and it really helps but I don't have the club head that far back but il try it alot of Alex's tips are simple and easy to follow

  8. I saw his video recently and tried it on the range first .. worked quite well. I've used in on the course now just about all the time! Just with the driver, for me, but it's worked!

  9. I need to lay the ball at the hosel almost for me to get contact on the middle of the club head and even so I still sometimes manage to catch the toe. Something with my biomechanics that during my swing path the club head shifts inwards. Never had a lesson. Just self taught. 13 hcp weekend golfer. Carry 270 yds 3200 spin 164 mph 9.0 degree launch angle are my average numbers

  10. I tried the club face a few inches behind the ball– and the first time I tried it, I somehow hit a massive miss past the toe, and flew sort of like a shank. Been afraid to try that tip since. (probably will hit the range before trying again).
