From a Twins fan… hearing Mauer out there in front of the media for years just saying “yeah it’s frustrating” in the most calm, even-keeled, just-found-out-the-gas-station-was-out-of-twizzlers voice was so grading when the team wasn’t performing. You definitely got the sense that without a character leading the clubhouse the team wasn’t going anywhere
Best back and forth with Boone I have ever heard-kudos to Jake and Jim for actual intelligent discourse face to face with Boone. I did not agree with Boone’s stance on some of the issues but thought he mostly gave intelligent thinking in his responses. Never knew about reasons for flirting with catcher’s interference – now I do. Think jake’s point on why not bring the infield in was a good one with yanks offense so meager and anemic but of course we are also looking at the situation with the benefit of hindsight! Bravo you guys – came out with a bit more respect for Boone – though still not a fan. Mostly I do not blame him but rather other higher ups
