How To Fairly Rank Players From LIV Golf And Other Tours?

After Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson tied for 2nd at the Masters in 2023, Matt and Dom dive into the question of how the Official World Golf Rankings can potentially award points to players at LIV Golf events, and whether the rankings are fair to players on tours like the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour), Asian Tour, etc.

  1. Has the PGA ever had a 54 hole event that awarded World Golf ranking points?

  2. Why don't we cut off all oil purchases from the Saudi's and punish them that way? The answer is obvious to most intelligent people. Especially with this administration.

  3. Good that Matt finally stopped interrupting the other guy! Raising good points both of you. Love your show big up

  4. You are not wrong. Anyone who drives a car or takes an Uber is open to accusations of hypocrisy if they oppose LIV Golf. Is this not the case that the PGA Tour is overly defensive? After all, nobody can buy history and heritage. But in turn, nobody can deny that golf is a global sport/industry and expansion, and commercial competition/innovation is inevitable. Collaboration is key.

  5. Really need to stop debating the entitlement of pro players getting OWGR because they used to play on eligible league. It's not the players that have to qualify it's the league. There's only one question: Has LIV met the same criteria OWGR is based on?

  6. Matt there a also large constituencies of people who dispise PGAT also for what JM has done to world golf .

  7. Take a step back and look at it from a none American perspective. The PGAT is destroying world golf for there own benifit and a lot of people are angry about it . If your in america it stuff everyone else as we happy with all the cake .

  8. Sadly it does feel like it takes courage to show any support of LIv and to criticize any establishment or leadership in this environment.
I for one love the pga tour and LIv. I just feel one has innovative leadership that is changing the game and one has slow, reactionary leadership that really needs a change. Feeling brave here.
I see the owgr is a mess. It’s one thing to be slow with small tours that pop up but when so many highly ranked players move like this, the owgr needs to reflect that appropriately and immediately. LIv is trying to meet as many criteria as possible but the owgr needs to be more flexible.
The bottom line is Liv is bringing in billions to golf and caused others to spend hundreds of millions more. This is a good thing. Because the other one we have heard a lot is they are ruining the sport or whatever, but anything that is getting more and more money is by definition not ruined; it’s in fact thriving.
I loved watching Hilton head and look forward to Liv down under. I do wish players from both sides were at both these events, but I’m being entertained. The competitions all feel legitimate.
The big thing for me is tour battles cannot keep deserving players out of majors and international events whether individual or team play.
    That’s it.

  9. There is a huge difference between who invests in a company and who owns a company. For example- Jeffrey Epstein had investments in many companies. Buying from those companies is totally different than buying directly, or working for Jeffrey Epstein.

  10. Jesus, Matt. Who cares that the Saudis fund lots of stuff we use. It’s their funding of LIV that infuriates us because we all know – including you and Dom – why they did it.

  11. To fairly rate a liv player😅 is there tournaments for their tour, not PGA . There's no cuts they all make money. Makes it a lot easier to golf not worried about making cut or next pay check. But on PGA you have all the above plus new players every tournament. Best way stay on there own tour's and everyone can be happy with the chosen tour's

  12. Matt & Dom, has anybody looked at the TUGR ranking system? I think it has merit.

  13. I guess people should boycott the NBA for doing business with China. The World Economy is connected. Every country is in business with each other. This selective activism is childish.

  14. Agreed totally with your comments & suggestions for LIV Golf to get in together with WGR to find ways/systems that can give WGR points for LIV players based on their week- in week -out performances. But if they can't find ways to fairly do it, suggest they (WGR) turn to solicite help from the founder of the proposed new WGR systems TUGR- that can apply to all pro golfers in the whole world regardless of what tour they are playing from or whether it's 54 or 72 holes rounds. Because its a new system that weights on matching the individual pro golfers performance results consistancy from every tour against one another throughout the pro golfers all over the world, starting from each one's 18 or 24 month historical tours onward. The TUGR system founder is on youtube now. You can look him up.

  15. Monaghan and head of dpworld tour are now removed from leadership of world rankings now has guys from Masters Royal and Ancient and not the biased PGA Tour guys new changes coming

  16. This is becoming my favorite outlet for golf coverage. Love the unbiased views. Let’s just love the sport and call it straight. I enjoy the PGA and I enjoy Liv. I just want the best to be recognized and when they all get together, may the best win. Leave politics out of it. Let’s these guys play golf and be rewarded for their accomplishments.

  17. Watch Adelaide go off this weekend with LIV….we want more LIV down under.
We see NO yes NO big players down here except for the Presidents cup when it was relevant.
You blokes in America are spoiled each week for choice with top players…….Bring 3 LIV League events to Australia.

  18. My ranking. liv playing for the money first and foremost. PGA playing for history and money, Nobody poor.

  19. If you’re going to make the argument that LIV has to comform to the criteria than the PGA has to deny points all PGA tournaments that don’t comply

  20. – – – When these LIV players weee playing in the PGA tour they didn't complain about OWGR now that they with LIV they complain. They ignore the fact that the format of their tournament doesn't conform with the OWGR criteria for earning points.

  21. I would argue it’s more difficult to win a LIV event that it is most PGA events, as the top PGA players sit home.

If they want to give 3/4 the points for a LIV event, I would be OK with that.
