What You DIDN’T KNOW About Sir Jim Ratcliffe

A recent article from Adam Crafton on The Athletic highlighted some of the problems Sir Jim has been facing at his other football club, OGC Nice:

🔺 Captain complaints about direction
🔺 Fan protests
🔺 Ex-military man on player performance
🔺 Police investigation into allegations of racism by former coach, which he denies

It is, so far, a four-year story of overpromising & underdelivering on promises, culminating in fan exasperation.

The problems for Ratcliffe became most apparent after the club parted ways with Galtier last season

The club also lost their sporting director, Julien Fournier
Fournier, has accused Ratcliffe of making poor decisions about the club’s recruitment and transfer policy. He has also said that Ratcliffe does not understand football.

Ratcliffe then appointed former Palace and Cardiff director, Iain Moody.
Active negotiations fell by the wayside, replaced by a British-centric approach, which led to the arrivals of Ross Barkley, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Bryan as well as Premier League players such as Kasper Schmeichel, Nicolas Pépé and Mads Bech Sørensen.

The club has limited success with these players – their recently departed manager Favre didn’t even know how old Barkley was!

Ratcliffe has changed who is charge of transfers again. Now it’s Florent Ghisolfi, the man who was partly responsible for building the current Lens team that is only 3 points behind PSG (Messi, Neymar, Mbappe PSG…)

This, of course, seems like a sensible move from Ratcliffe but we are yet to see any positives from this appointment – they finished 9th…
Maybe it will take time?

He’s spent £205m and had very little success from it – that’s a lot for just 4 years for a club the size of Nice…

Some Nice fans have become disillusioned with INEOS’ ownership, and two of the club’s most prominent ultras groups announced a strike ahead of a recent home game.

The Populaire Sud and North Side, both known for their vigorous and vocal support, announced they would not be attending the Allianz Riviera for a home match against Toulouse.

Ratcliffe moved to Monaco in 2018, which is a tax haven. This has led to accusations that he is not committed to the UK and that he is only interested in making money.

Ratcliffe’s move to Monaco has been seen by some as a way to avoid paying taxes in the UK. In 2017, he was the third-highest individual taxpayer in the UK, paying £110m in tax. However, after moving to Monaco, he is estimated to have saved around £450m in tax.

  1. Nice is better run than PSG! I don’t want a club where football decisions are made by big name players and people who have never been to game.

  2. If I remember correctly, I think Sheik Jassim did say what he wanted to do with United when his interest in buying the club was first announced. Not that I'm 100% in favour of or against his bid, but just trying to be fair to him, if my memory served me well.

  3. Going to bed with the Glazers knocked Sir Jim out of the race long time ago… How can he handle the monstrous United when he already can't manage small Nice?

  4. At first i just wanted the Glazers out if control so i didnt care who it was. But seeing Ratcliffes bid kept the glazers at the club worried me. And seeing how Ineos have ran Nice has worried me even more. Unfortunately i think Qatar are the only bidders who can actually improve the club (out of themselves and Ratcliffe)

  5. Rat is also vocal supporter of Brexit who is tax exile building cars investing in Europe. Also workers union breaker

  6. Not the point of the video but the class of 92 have been terrible in the running of Salford. Haven’t moved past the bottom half of league 2 despite all the money the club has spent.

  7. Nothing here that puts me off the idea of Sir Jim and Ineos running the club, certainly nothing worse than the prospect of completely selling the clubs soul and becoming just another oil billionaires play thing. Earn success, don't buy it.

  8. Well fair enough let's compare: How have Jassim's other clubs been run… Oh, he doesn't have any? What about Jassim's other sport franchises… Oh, he doesn't have any? We'll compare how he runs his businesses to Ineos then… Oh, he doesn't have any known businesses either?

Meanwhile if it is state run, PSG and Malaga (both Qatari owned) both have fan protests (PSG's Ultras are currently boycotting the club), both have breached FFP and both have underachieved domestically. PSG's president is being investigated for kidnapping and torturing people.

Imagine looking at that and thinking "yea, I want the Qatari royal family running my club"

  9. “The truth about Ratcliffe” lmao
If so have a dollar for every video like this I would be filthy rich

  10. Sir Jim buying the club on debt and doesn't understand football. Where have I heard this before?

  11. Jim Ratcliffe may not look great on paper, but I'd take him over the Glazers any day of the week.

  12. Just witnessed City do a 3peat, what are you chatting about broke sir Jim, it’s obvious we’ll die under his model, Stephen when will u wake up and see football lost its morals a long time ago, super wealth is the only way forward or is this same British bias, Sheikh Jassim plan is clearer than Sir rat because all I hear is he is going to bring Manchester back to Manchester dumb fellow

  13. Sir Rat and INEOS own FC Lausanne-Sport as well and it has been extremely worse for them than Nice.
Sir Rat and INEOS have so far shown that they are totally clueless about running football clubs.
And Sir Rat and INEOS have always bought these football clubs to earn money and not because they are fans at all.
There are no doubts at all that Sir Rat and INEOS want to buy United to earn money and not because they are fans or think winning trophies is very important.
And when we know that Sir Rat want to own the club together with two Glazers, I really don't understand why some fans want them to own United.

  14. The way the government spends our taxes i don’t blame him, labour or conservatives, twats the lot of them!

  15. TBH everyone is prone to moan: but- both options are better than glazers.

We are therefore in a good position. A much better one with either.

Ineos- we will have true backing which will eventually get rid of the glazers of someone with real money who is an actual fan. Also will be subject to financial reporting as its not an 100% buyout.

    Quatar: endless money

  16. With a big recession around the corner, what makes you think Ratcliffe can buy out the Glazers in three years? probably not…if the Judas wins, the Glazers are here to stay.

  17. Qatar have the best interests of the club. Real investment, real change and selfless behaviour. The same cannot be said and the other tax dodging greenwashers

  18. Salford city have the lowest attendances in the football league – no chance they could reach the prem. the Wrexham blue print has blown Neville and co away with who to buy and how to market the club.

  19. Thanks for an excellent analysis, Ste. You are a very necessary voice in this wilderness. Cheers, Richard

  20. Ratcliffe is a rat from what he promised at the start of his bid he's got worse and worse he shouldn't be aloud to buy us it's just more debt having to borrow just to buy half the club so sir Jim do one glazer's out sheikh jassim in now

  21. As soon as Jimmy rat entertained the thought of keeping the glaziers he lost the fan base , I really hope this old rat pisses off quickly

  22. How much more money does a 70 year old billionaire need?…..how is no one else yet raising this point?!

  23. To be fair did they not come out at the start and say they wanted to make Man U great again etc just to have the glazers tell them to stop.

  24. YOU CANNOT KNOCK HIM FOR NOT PAYING TAX, THE UK TAIE THE COMPLETE P*SS WITH TAX. EVERY £100 I MAKE I GOT TO PAY £40 OF THAT ON TAX FOR WHAT, OUR NHS, ROADS AND OTGER FREEBIES ARE JUST BEING ABUSED BY EVERYONE.
