FRUSTRATED PGA Tour Players Only Saudi PIF Meeting

PGA Tour Player Lanto Griffin joins Fairways of Life at the 2023 Travelers Championship where he admits he may skip the PGA Tour Players-only meeting due to some disappointment and frustration in the recently announced Saudi Public Investment Fund-led entity that combines the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf.

  1. I can understand that, as a player, he just wants to play without any distractions. But, as a member of the PGA Tour – which he obviously loves – he and all the other members, are being treated like mushrooms by the Tour: being kept in the dark and fed sh!t. He needs to be interested, he needs to have a point of view and express it. He's just crossing his fingers and hoping for the best but that does not seem to be a practical idea. Now that Jay Monahan has left for reasons yet to be disclosed, the Board is in charge, though the 5 players on the Board seem to be kept in the dark like all the other players. The Board seems to be operating in their own self interests and not in the primary interests off the membership. Time to have another ex player as Chairman, IMO. Tom Watson or Nicklaus, preferably.

  2. If Tom Watson has evidence that the Saudi Government was involved with the 9/11 attacks, I’d like to see it.

  3. Monahan ain't sick. He's gone. PGA as they knew it was almost out of money and losing sponsors.

  4. Why don’t all the PGA and LIV players leave and set up an new Professional Golfers Tour. The prize money may not initially be great but who would want to continue to watch two tours where none of the top golfers play.

  5. there just trying to figure out how to keep more $$$$$'s on the management side and less in the players pockets!! that's what upper management does in every industry!! They don't earn it but they sure want to keep it!!

  6. I understand Lanto's feelings and views, but just one contrary comment – the PGA Tour does NOT make the golf special, the players and the game does. PGA Tour is just the money making arm of the BUSINESS of golf, not the game of golf.

  7. The PGA players appear to be in a 'no win' situation at the moment. Fill up your head with all the turmoil of the merger and your game suffers on course. Ignore what is going on and players' adverse opinions begin to dwindle into insignificance.

  8. This whole ordeal stinks to high heaven, and none of the parties are coming clean anytime soon. I feel for the PGA players who remained loyal and took the high road.

  9. I don't understand how the PGA went full 'no' from the beginning….

They could have benefited from LIV from day 1

  10. Nice one Greg Norman!! This is exactly what the game needed. A proper shakedown too to bottom. Make it about the players and not the corporations 👏 👏 👏

  11. One thing I haven't heard anyone mention is the endless number of volunteers giving their time, free of charge, across the country at all tour events. Many don't even get to see the tournament. Golf professionals lead a charmed life. Most regular tour events began as a fund raising event for their community.

  12. Maybe it's time for the players to walk away. Strike. Start a new tour next year. Final game this year is the open. Tell the Saudis. No. Keep your money. Start again, small and build. Done it before, you can do it again. Be part of something great, not owned, by someone rich.

  13. the PGA thought they could ignore and chastise the PIF which had $620 billion and now they caved which has been bought by the saudis

  14. this is almost like the PBA tour (pro bowlers) which at one time had 30 some tournaments and now they are down to maybe 15 (3 months) of the yr and have to play regionals. PGA was going down that road and brought this all onto themselves
