Unbelievable Surfboard Review with Firewire Mash Up – WOOLY TV #33

Unbelievable Surfboard Review with Firewire Mash Up – WOOLY TV #33

Wooly is back and the froth is real! 6 months has been a long time healing the knee but he is back ready to go and the third board out of the editing studio is the Machado x Firewire Mash Up.

Wooly weighs 87kg/192lb and is 6’1″/187cm tall
Wooly is riding a 5’10” x 20 1/16″ x 2 3/4″ – 35.5L

From Firewire
Two minds combined.

Rob Machado and Dan Mann have created the Mashup: A melding of each of their most popular designs; the Seaside and the Spitfire.

Both board designers have spent time mixing and matching their favorite elements of each shape, and they’ve landed at something that goes fast in weak waves as well as a Seaside, and also drives vertically in good waves as well as the Spitfire.

The Mashup is the ultimate groveler. And the ultimate everyday board as well.

Built in Helium Technology, it’s one of our absolute favourite boards for 2023.

What do you think of the new format??? Feel free to comment or send me an IG message.

  1. Good review, board actually looked good… yeeeww. And your surfing suits that board, no bullshit.

  2. get a wooly dog up ya! looks like a nifty groveller. the firewire techs are definitely different to your regular eps/epoxy, i ve found them to go well in choppy surf too.

  3. Wooly!!!! Glad the knee is feeling better, and you’re stilling rippin! Thank you for another awesome review.
How did it feel as 2+1?
JS Sub Xero vs Mashup? Which would ya choose?

  4. Great review. I have the mashup and love it up until head high. I have a chance to pick up an El Tomo Fish for a great price. Do you reckon they overlap too much or does the Tomo do well when it is head high?

  5. wow. first time on this channel. Wooly you rip.I thought this would be another geyser trying to show he can surf…but you got skills man! I just bought this board as a 6'6 and i fucking love it. Ill def get it in a smaller size for smaller waves but it's pretty versatile at a bigger size and i have surfed it in 8-10 ft steamer lane and other heavier sc north coast spots and it handles all comers so far. Its a beastly wave sled fo sho! gonna tune into your channel more often bro! Keep ripping. Inspiring to see another older bloke still stoked and frothing (Im 50 and still am a frothing grom most of the time!).

  6. Great review Wooly! Was a little weird seeing you surf flat when usually your rail surfing is so good .

  7. I only surf mine as a two plus one now! It’s epic ! It’s also one of the few boards I’ve ridden that volumes up Really well!

I’m riding the 6’6 and I can it get it vertical , no problem

  8. Agree on the volume and windy theory eps vs poly. Eps boards feel a lot 'springier' though, especially on small waves. The stoke was real in this episode. Keep it up!

  9. Heck yeh Wooly your ripping bloke, what knee injury?! Top shelf work on the production too very cool to watch. I know what you mean I am turning 50 tomorrow and all day surf missions make ya pay for a few days now haha

  10. Had a 5'10 since they came out, I'm the same size human as you. Unfortunately I find it sits in my quiver deadspot where I love the seaside and skip this straight for my monsterbox.

  11. Great review Woolly, loved the piss-takes and humour, most enjoyable and relatable review I’ve seen 👍🏼
I have a 6’6 Mash and a 6’8 Dom2 – the Mashup has amazing quirks of brilliance and really does keep speed on the weakest sections- but then sometimes it has the occasional hiccup quirk 🤷🏽‍♂️
Except for perhaps the little extra plane on weak sections I don’t seem to notice a great deal of performance difference from the Dom2 which seems so much easier, or natural to ride. Love em both but recently bought a Kelvinator which again has a life of its own now that I found the right fin combo. My wife wants me to sell one – due to there being so much crossover I chose the Mashup to sell but I put a decent price on it and no one has offered that money (immaculate condition). That’s great, hoping wifey will forget about it because I know I’ll regret it 😂😂😂
Oh yeah, we both know Bruce is always lurking along that stretch… 😅

  12. Hey bro, nice review 👍 any chance you be doing a pyzel mini ghost? Cheers wooly

  13. I started off surfing the Mashup as a 2+1 and it was crazy loose but lacked drive. Switched to a large quad set and it has speed and drive for days! Only issue I have now is I'm struggling on my backhand – the fin search continues so maybe a medium rear set to loosen it up a bit.

  14. Love the review. Your surfing looks great on this board. I wish I look 1/4 as good on my Mashup!

  15. Your stoke for surfing looked better than the boards performance Wooly. You still ripped it though and the knee looks strong. I will agree the board looked so much better in the small sloppy beachie.

  16. Nice hybrid, I've enjoyed all the FW Dominator versions and still have a Seaside. It looks way more performancy, but that might be the diff rider haha but yeah looks fun 🤙

  17. Hey guys, just wanna say this wooly surfer from Oregon is really enjoying the reviews 🤙
    How about a revo!?!

  18. Nice one 🤙🏻. Tossing up between this and the Utopia so wondered if you’ve seen that one yet or could offer any insights. Cheers
